~oooOooo~
Three days after their new nightmare began, the boys were pulled from the rooms they had been deposited in and thrown back into the prison they had come to know. They were stunned, dazed, mentally hobbled. It only barely registered to each of them that the others were really and truly still alive and sitting there in front of them. Unable to process anything but that for the first few moments, they all laid with each other, touching hands, faces, chests, shoulders, any skin they could.
They were alive.
The fog gradually cleared for each of them and before long, they were able to sit up, survey the room, and untangle themselves from one another, albeit reluctantly. They were all the worse for wear after three days locked in cold rooms, some worse off than others.
Namjoon pulled back all of a sudden, looking from one person to the next as if he were seeing ghosts. Was he? He wasn't so sure he wasn't. He wasn't sure any of this was real, that he hadn't finally lost his mind and slipped over the edge of sanity, never to return. But then he saw Hobi... Hobi, whom he had embraced as though he was a lifeline when he was dumped back into their cell, Hobi whose cold cheek he had kissed over and over again. He wasn't a ghost, was he? Hobi was still lying in a fetal position where he had been deposited, holding his leg and shaking, his pain all too real to deny.
Jungkook wasn't a ghost either, right? The maknae had barely moved since he got back to the room, the gentle rise and fall of his chest the only indication that he still drew breath. Taehyung had managed to stumble over to where Jungkook lay, his hands shaking as he dropped to his knees by the man's side. A sob had escaped his already raw throat, ruined by screams for help that had faded into nothing when no one came to his rescue, as he pulled Jungkook to his chest and held him close. Jungkook was almost lifeless - the man's eyes dull as Taehyung rocked him back and forth. Taehyung's own teeth chattered and his lips were blue from the frigid conditions all of them had been forced to endure. Surely that was real.
Namjoon looked over to his hyung to see him looking even more tortured than he was before. Yoongi had moved away from the group to the far corner of the room, knuckles white from how tightly he clenched his fists.
Real. They were all real. They were all suffering.
Right?
"Jimin-ah," Jin breathed as he frantically looked around once more, scrambling up to bang against the door, screaming for his missing brother.
"Where is Jiminie!?!" he wailed as he spun back around to look at Namjoon.
"Gone..." was all the younger man said, staring at his hands as he addressed the voices of his brothers that were tormenting him in his mind.
Seokjin-hyung wasn't there - he couldn't be.
Neither were his precious maknaes Taehyungie and Jungkook-ah or his savage brother Min Yoongi.
Or his precious, eternal love, Jung Hoseok.
They were monsters in his mind - simple hallucinations of a subconscious that wanted him to fully suffer for the damage he had done.
Namjoon was alone, utterly and completely alone, he was sure of it. The thought made him want to curl up in a ball and die.
"Namjoon!" Jin said sharply. "Kim Namjoon!"
