For days Kaelyn had traveled through the questions that continued to haunt her mind as she raced to the place of her most traumatizing nightmare, determined to save the seven young men that had been taken and kept there for longer than they should have been.

As she drove highways and byways, the guilt started to eat at her - weigh heavily on her already burdened heart.

No more did she worry about her safety or well-being.

No more did she care if one of her family was the end of her.

If she could be a distraction for Sven so the others could get away...

But could she let Mathan get away, knowing what she knew?

Could she turn him over to Colton knowing that their brother didn't see all the colors of the world - all the things that could happen to taint and scar a soul?

Mathan saw in bursts of light and violent splatters of red.

He lived and died by the mercenary code - his morals skewed by the things he had been forced to see and do.

Kaelyn saw in pale pastels and misty grays - her mind often haunted by the nightmares she had faced - the people she had survived.

And Colton?

He only saw the world in black and white. No varied shades of gray.

You were either evil, or you weren't.

There was only good or bad.

Not bad people who made good choices or good people who did the very best they could with what they had.

It made understanding and trusting him all the more difficult for her.

In this moment she had never felt more alone.

For two days she had sat in a pull-off that nobody passed, waiting for the radio to give her a command.

For two days she had tried to meditate or find religion to help her clear her mind.

Had called out to those who had gone before her, begging the powers of the universe to help her keep a clear head and sound mind when the seven - eight - men she was after came into view.

Would she be able to even save them all as broken and as bloody as they must be?

Kaelyn still knew she would not leave unless all of them were there and she wondered if that made her a monster just the same as the ones who had held them there before.

Staring at her radio she willed it to buzz - to call out to her and tell her to come - to make any kind of noise at all so she would know they were all okay.
