Chapter 25: Leap of Death-Part 1

After everything that happened in Jazz Town with the manmade hurricanes and The Puppeteer, Marie was finally ready to move on to White Peaks. Marie decided that she would rent out a condo there for her and the boys to stay there while she worked on any murder cases up there. Just like their original home, Marie's condo had a beautiful view of the snowy mountains which made Scott, Olivier and even Julian to become awestruck. Max also had a fun time because even though he grew in the last few months he was still a puppy and heart and he jumped and frolicked in the snow around the building. Luckily for Marie, the condo accepted pets so it was convenient for her to bring their dogs Max and Buck, Marie's cat Nico and even their little chinchilla Kerry Ann.

The new station was also situated in White Peaks and Marie set up her stuff on her desk from the old station. Looking around, Marie saw that it was almost the same and she smiled, looked down at her ring on her finger and then played with the ring around her neck and she said to herself, "I came this far David. I hope you're watching wherever you are."

Pretty soon, Chief Marquez came by and she smiled at Marie and said, "Welcome to White Peaks Marie! The district itself is named after its beautiful mountains. Even though we're here for work, if you ever get the chance, you should visit the forests, the camping grounds and even the caves."

Marie nodded and said, "I'll think about that ma'am."

Chief Marquez then said, "This place is packed with tourists, but luckily we've got a local here who can show you the ropes!"

It was then that Amy approached them wearing a winter coat, greeted Marie and said, "Ready for me to guide you around my district Marie? There's so much around here to show you. And who knows, you might even meet my family."

Marie nodded, told Amy that she was ready and she grabbed her winter coat and asked while putting it on, "So where to first on this grand tour Amy?"

Amy then pulled out two tickets from her coat pocket and said, "First stop, I got us two tickets to the Frosty Cup! It's the biggest winter sports competition in all of Pacific Bay!"

Marie smiled and said, "Sounds exciting."

Amy nodded enthusiastically and she said, "It is! But we better get our seats quickly. It's the first year ever that women can compete in the ski jump! And it's about to start!" And soon, Amy took Marie by the hand and pulled her out the door.

While Marie was being pulled by Amy, she began to think why women weren't allowed to compete till now. At the Frosty Cup, Marie was sitting in her seat with Amy, who was holding an ice cream cone, and she looked around and saw that there were more women than men in the audience. Amy took a lick from her ice cream and she looked at Marie and said, "Nice view, huh Marie? I even managed to get one of my favorite King Dairy ice cream treats just in time."

Marie then asked Amy, "So Amy, I'm curious. Was it only men that competed in the ski jump event all these years?"

Amy nodded and said, "Yeah. But thanks to the support of some me,bets in the community, the rules changed and now women are allowed to compete this year."

Marie nodded and she thought to herself, almost sounds like Saudi Arabia. They too have all male athletes. Pretty soon, the competition began to start for the first ever Women's Ski Jump event. The announcer soon announced the first athlete named Anjulie Cruz and he said to the audience, "This is history being made ladies and gentlemen. The first woman to go down the Frosty Cup ramp!"
