Chapter 4: Dead Girl Rolling-Part 1

A few days later after the Valerie Green murder, Marie and Amy were approached by Hannah one day and invited them to see a roller derby. When Marie spread the news to Scott and Julian, they asked if they could come and watch too and Marie agreed providing that they find a babysitter for Oliver. Finally on the day of the match, Marie and the boys were waiting patiently for Amy to arrive at the apartment. A few minutes later, they heard the intercom buzz, which meant that Amy arrived and soon they all headed out to the roller rink.

Once they got there, Amy, Marie, Scott and Julian looked around the stands for Hannah until Marie noticed her waving to them and she saw that she was holding a flag. As soon as they got to her, Hannah smiled and said, "Hey guys! You're just in Time for the competition to begin! Have you seen a roller derby game before?"

Scott nodded and said, "I've seen one in Grimsborough once. It gave me chills every time one team knocked into the other."

"My dad never lets me watch those things because he said they were, and I quote, "too violent," Julian said.

Marie looked down at him and said, "But that didn't stop you from robbing the Greene manor did it Julian?" And Julian blushed at Marie's comment remembering the consequences that happened.

Amy then tilted her head and said, "Well I don't know about you guys, but I'm still not sure how it's played. I mean, teams of girls on roller skates scoring points by pushing each other off the track?"

Hannah nodded and said, "Yep, that's pretty much it. You need to be fast, fierce and show off some skin! It's all about girl power!" And it was then that both boys thought they felt hard when they imagined both teams in their minds.

Pretty soon, the game started with the team Hannah was cheering for, the Helter Skaters, leading by five points, but team rival team, the Pacific Pixies, have time to fight back. It was a competition between the roller derby's finest. Hannah then stood up and cheered on the Helter Skaters and Scott did the same along with Julian. One of the Helter Skater team members, Susie the Slayer, was leading the jam, but her rival from the Pacific Pixies, Mona Middlefinger, tries to block her and she pushed Susie hard enough to send her flying out of the rink, which made the audience groan out and a cause for a penalty for the Pixies.

Marie then asked, "I sure hope Susie is okay. That looked like it hurt."

Hannah placed a hand on Marie shoulder and said, "Don't worry sweetie, these girls know how to roll with the punches."

Hannah then looked out to the rink and saw that Susie wasn't getting up and she thought that it seemed strange. Seeing that Susie is down, the game got suspended as the medics rushed into the rink to find out how serious her injuries were. Thinking that the poor girl was knocked unconscious, Amy and Marie stood up and headed towards the rink to see if they can help. Once Marie told Scott to watch Julian, the two female officers headed down to see the damage.

As soon as Amy and Marie showed the medics their badges, they started asking them questions and Hannah the boys watched as one of the medics shook their head no and Marie and Amy thanked them and headed back to the stands. Julian then asked Marie, "Well Sissy, is she gonna be okay?"

Marie shook her head and said, "I'm afraid not. Amy and I asked the medic and it turns out that she's dead."

Shocked by what she heard, Hannah exclaimed, "I can't believe it! Susie Pickley is dead! I know derby girls play it rough, but how could she have died from just one push?"

"I don't think it's the push that killed her Hannah. I saw Susie's face and it was a swollen and blue. My guess is that she must've been poisoned," Marie pointed out.
