Mission Accomplished part 1 (Steve Rogers)

Summary: You and Steve were together. One day on a mission, you disobey his orders and get injured, then you get in a fight.

"We get in, we save the hostages, we take the file and get out discreetly. Don't engage with anyone unless it's necessary" Steve explained the plan.

"We are definitely gonna have to engage with them. They won't leave the file or the hostages unprotected. There will be at least 10 guards" Nat told him.

" As I said don't engage unless it's necessary. Of course we won't be able to get to the file and hostages without getting through the guards, I didn't mean them. This was directed at y/n, she knows what I'm talking about" Steve looked at you and so did everyone else.

You had your legs stretched at the table and had a candy cane in your mouth "What?" you weren't paying attention.

"Have you even been  listening to what I just said?" he asked you.

"Yeah, something about getting in and out" you said.

"Discreetly, without engaging with the rest of the base, just the guards" he explained to you again.

"I'll see what I can do" you told them.

"No, I'm serious. You are going with Nat". "Falcon will stay in the air and warn us if someone's coming. I'll take the front entrance. Nat and y/n will take the back entrance. Vision will keep the engine running" Steve added.

"Aye, aye captain" you said sarcastically as you saluted him.

He gave you a 'shaking my head' look.

After you and Nat knocked the guards outside, you entered the building and quietly searched for the hostages.

While you were searching, you heard other Hydra agents talk about another file, but that was not you're mission you told yourself, don't get distracted just focus on the mission.

"Found them" Nat informed everyone and told Steve where to find them. There were 20 men outside the room where the hostages were kept. You waited until Steve arrived and started fighting the guards. As you were fighting ypu couldn't get what the other agents were talking about out of your mind. You knew that Steve and Nat could take them out alone, so you quietly left.

They knocked all of them out and started freeing and moving the hostages to the plane.

"where's y/n?" Steve asked Nat.

"i don't know, she was just here" she answered.

"Y/n where are you? Steve is asking about you?" she asked in the com device.

"Y/n come in. I told you not to engage. I swear if you are right now I'm-" he was interrupted by your voice on the com "It's a bit too late for that. I'm sorry  but it's urgent. Talk to you later" you turned the com device off.

"Y/n get back here NOW!.... Y/n?" there was no answer.

"Oh oh, You are in trouble now" Nat whispered to herself.

A few moments later they heard a gunshot. They quickly rushed to the source of the noise, just as they arrived another gunshot was heard. He just saw you kill a man.

"I can't believe this!" he told you  in a disappointed tone.
"It's not what it looks like. I'll explain on our way home" you said trying to make him stay calm.

As you were getting out of the room, a bullet was fired but this time it pierced through your body. You fell on the floor and started bleeding, Steve quickly caught you.

"Hey, hey stay with me alright. It's gonna be okay" he tried reassuring you.

You smiled "I'm sorry" before you lost consciousness.

"How is she?".

"She's stable for now" you heard voices as you started waking up. Everything was blurry but it started coming back slowly. You had a headache and a sore pain in your stomach.

"You are awake. Good, because we need to talk" Steve said.

"Take it easy on her" Nat told him before she left the room.

"I know what you're gonna say. That I shouldn't have went without telling you and I should've waited and maybe not engage at all, but I discovered something important and couldn't just let it go" you tried to explain to him.

"You disobeyed me".

"In my defense, I-"

"No, no you don't get to explain. It's my turn to speak. You disappointed me y/n. In my guts I felt like you were gonna get us in trouble, but I ignored that feeling because I believed that you would actually listen for once" he seemed really disappointed and hearing those words felt like daggers in your body. To know that you are a disappointment to the person you love the most made your heart ache.
"Are you upset with me?" you asked in a sad tone.

"Am I upset with you? I'm furious with you. I don't even know where to start!" he was now angry.

"I understand if you want to break up with me" you were trying to hold the tears back.

"What?No, I'm not breaking up with you. I'm mad at you".

"So where do we go from here?" you questioned.

"I don't know, you tell me" he demanded.

"What do you want me to say? I fucked up okay, I'm sorry, but the mission was accomplished so...".

"Is that what you think?"

"Yeah. We  freed the hostages and we got the file. Nobody got hurt, well except for them".

"And you" he added.

"I'm here,  aren't I?"

"Yeah but at what cost?" it was a rhetorical question but you answered anyways.

"At my injury, but I'm alright with it so.."

"Well I'm not. I could've lost you there. How could you be so selfish?".

"I wasn't. I was trying to protect you. All of you. There was another file. I heard some agents talk about it. It's why I left. I found out where they hid it and they guy you saw me kill didn't cooperate and threatened to kill you and I wasn't willing to take the chance to see what happens if I didn't" you explained.

"So that's what you were doing while we were fighting a bunch of guards".

" I knew you  and Nat could take out those guards alone. Besides, if I asked for permission, you would've said that's not our mission. But now we have the location of the other file".

"That doesn't change the fact that you disobeyed my orders. You are more important tome than any file. And if I lost you, I feel like that'd be on me and I can't...".

"Who's selfish now?" you tried to ease the mood but failed.

"Don't you dare. When we're out there, we're more than lovers. We're team mates, partners and we trust each other with our lives, but now I'm not so sure I can do that" he told you.

"What can I do to fix it?" you asked him.

"Right now, nothing" he ended the conversation and left the room.
