Chapter 5b: The Burglar

" Avery come sit with us " Crystal said holding her tray of food.

It's finally lunch time, I finally managed to get some time away from Ashton. The last period before recess was the only class I didn't have with him. looked at the table she invited me to and I Just shook my head in reply.

On the table were some jocks including Stephen, Jace's best friend, a few cheerleaders including Tori, the head cheerleader and Jace's girlfriend and lastly James who was obviously waiting for Crystal.

" no just go ahead I'll eat alone " I said

" are you sure? " she asked and I nodded in return.

Taking my seat at the table farthest from anyone's view, I took out a book I started reading earlier.

" hi " a cheery voice said, my aim sitting alone was gone.

I looked up to see Clara Anderson, the school's gossip queen as she'd like to call herself . She knows everything going on in school.

" uhm hi " I said awkwardly.

She never tried to talk to me

" Ashley right? " she said sitting down and setting her tray on the table.

" it's Avery actually " I said putting my book down.

" sorry. So are you new here? " she asked taking a bite of her salad.

" not really " I replied

" oh" she took a sip of her cherry juice.

Ewww cherries.

" so you are showing the new boy around " she said finishing her salad.

Frankly I couldn't see how she could be satisfied with just that.

" yeah " I said trying not to gag at the smell of cherries.

" that's it right ?" she asked

" yeah " I said which seemed to make her smile.

" cool so I'll see you around " she got up smiling showing her pearly whites between her glossy lips.

I watched as she walked away with her red hair bouncing in its pony tail.

" hey " Ashton said distracting me from my book

" hi " I smiled back

" never sleep with strangers. Id never picture you as someone who likes mysteries " he settled down next to me.

" you've read it? " I asked and he nodded

" good tell me what happens because frankly, I'm tired of trying to find out " I put the book down.

" no cupcake, you'll have to find out yourself " he smiled, digging into his burger.

" cupcake? " I asked

" yeah cause you are sweet and so are cupcakes " he said making me blush.

" come on tell me " I begged

" nope find out yourself " he said and I pouted.

" hi Ashton " Clara said with three other girls behind her.

I don't even know why I sat here if it was clearly not hidden.

" you wanna sit with us " she twirled her hair which was now down with a finger and her makeup redone

" no " Ashton said not bothering to look at them.

" come on " she said

" I already said no so fvck off" he glared, earning a huff from her before she left .

" you didn't have to be mean " I said  Looking at Ashton

" cupcake if I didn't they would still be here " he swallowed the last bite of his lunch.

" but you shouldn't curse " I said

" oh cupcake " he chuckled.

School was finally over and I was setting a reminder to study for my biology test tomorrow. I shut my locker and walked to the school's parking lot where I usually wait for Crystal when she didn't have practice.

The weather was quite hot and I checked the time and saw it was fifteen minutes past two. I decided to go and check up on her . Walking in the hallway, I finally spotted her with a group of people including Jace Moreno.
After having an internal debate, I decided to wait for her for some time. I unnoticeably walked away from the group who were too engrossed in their talk to notice me.

" hey " I jumpeded a little. I turned to see Ashton with a smile on his face.

" what? " I asked confused.

" you are going to show me around town " he replied

" right now? " I raised a brow

" right now " he nodded

" could I at least go home and shower I stood outside for quite a while " I asked

" why were you standing? " he asked as we made our way out of the building .

" well, I was waiting for Crystal but she didn't show up so I went in to look for her " I said as we arrived the parking lot

" but she's right over there why didn't you just go "

I looked over to the building and saw crystal and others coming out and just when I was about to heave a sigh of relief, Jace Moreno walked out with them. Then I realized crystal was heading towards me.

Shit

I was highly nervous because for one have was coming to me and Crystal had a determined look on her face also I had a good stain on my shirt from lunch earlier and I was feeling very self conscious about it.
