Chapter 8- Doubt

Eugeo was alone with Tiese, it had been a day since him and Alice spoke to Raios and Humbert. Tiese looked at him. "Eugeo-senpai? Can I speak with you?" He nodded. "Sure. And your off-duty, just call me Eugeo." He said to her with a smile. Tiese nodded. "Alright, Eugeo." Eugeo then looked at her. "Tiese, hey? About Frenica, Alice and I spoke to Humbert yesterday so she shouldn't be having any problems with him." Tiese smiled at him. "Thank you! Thank you so much!" She said before looking at him. "You don't have to stand." He informed her, she nodded and sat down on his bed. "There's something I need to apologize for." He told her. "I wasn't sure of it yesterday but I am now. Humbert made those requests of Frenica because of me. Do you think you could set up a meeting with her for me? I'd like to apologize in person." He asked her. 

Her breathing hitched in her mouth. "Yes, of course." She told him. "Honestly, despite what you say, none of this is really your fault. But I'll be more than happy to convey your wishes to her nonetheless. " She held her hands close to her chest. "C-could I sit closer to you!" She asked. "Uhh.. sure." he said and she sat next to him. "I've been thinking... after I graduate from the academy...I'll take over as head of the Shtolienen family. As is custom, I'll have to marry a noble of the same rank or possibly higher..." she then looked at him. "And it terrifies me!" She cried out. "What if the man who becomes my husband turns out to be someone like Lord Zizek?  Someone who is cruel to others and lacks the basic principles of honor my father raised me to uphold... I'm so scared.... what do I do..." Eugeo looked at her and she then latched onto him, clinging to his arm. Eugeo gasped. "Tiese.." he whispered. "Eugeo, if it would be alright. I'd like to ask another favor of you?" She looked up at him, his eyes wide as she continued. "I have no doubt that eventually you'll wise rise to the top of our class, win the swordsmanship tournament, and Compete in the Fours Empires Unification Tournament!" She said. "I-I hope to..." he responded. "I mean, I am working hard torward that goal." "And after that.... if you... if you rank high in the Unification Tournament? You can be appointed as a noble." She then leaned in closer. "And then.. if you do decide to take a title? Do you think.... would be my..." she trailed off and Eugeo stiffened a bit, crying. However Eugeo wasn't there for the tournament, he was doing it to become an Integrity Knight. "It okay." He petted her and lifted her head up, knowing he couldn't tell her the truth. "After the tournament, we'll talk more about this." Tiese looked up at her hopefully soon-to-be-Fiancè. "I'll be waiting.." she said. "And I'll work as hard as you! I want to become strong enough so that I can speak up for what is right, just like you, Eugeo." It was now that Eugeo found himself having doubts about his love for Alice but he had to get Kirito home first, this could wait.
