"Eugeo..." I whispered and Kirito looked at me. "Alice, are you ok?" He asked me, his voice filled with concern. "I'm ok, Kirito, but I think Eugeo might be in trouble..." I told him and he nodded. "Well, we can't make anymore rods to climb up now. Not until the moon comes up, at least. So we might as well eat." He then took out some kind of food. I raised an eyebrow, "I didn't think Integrity Knights needed to eat." I admitted to him and his stomach growled. "Well, human or not, we're flesh and blood all the same. We still need food.. but they won't taste as good now..." he then had a slight frown. "Generate Thermal Element.. Burst Elme-" I slapped him, cutting him off. "Idiot! If you do that, you'll incinerate the food and probably us too!" I yelled at him and he rubbed his cheek. "You could've just said stop...." he said sadly. "Regardless, I'll do it. Generate Thermal Element. Aqueous Element. Aerial Element." I whispered, "Vortex shape. Burst." I finished and had fully cooked them, I then smiled and moved to eat them both. "Hey! Give me at least one of them!" He said, his eyes glazing over with tears. "Kirito, I was just kidding. You don't have to be such a baby about it." I smiled at him and gave him one of the buns. He smiled at me and ate his quickly, I giggled. He was the same he was 8 years ago, by the Gods, I hoped he stayed that way forever. That same caring boy who loved swords and food, who would do anything for those he loved, I hoped he stayed like that forever. He then suddenly had an unreadable expression.
"Alice... I... thank you... thank you for telling me..... for coming here. If I hadn't met you, well met you again, who knows if I'd have ever realized that I have a past... but I guess, half your job was already done. I already had my doubts about the Church's legitimacy and I never did think I was some Divine Hero sent from the heavens, to me, I was never that special. Plus, if I am to be honest, I've disobeyed the Church in the past. 3 years ago I stole a Divine object from the armory and snuck out in the middle of the night. I stole a dragon and went to the Dark Territory to see if the rumors I had heard were true. I slaughtered the entire settlement. Goblins, Orcs, and even a giant- I killed them all. Just to save 7 kids who were kidnapped. Even though the Administrator herself told me not to." He chuckled a bit and smiled, "But she didn't punish me for it. I don't know if that's because I was never caught or if it's because she didn't care." I looked at him and moved closer to him. "Kirito, even if I can't get your memories to come back.... I want to make new memories with you." He then looked at me and smiled softly, wrapping his arm around me. "Don't worry about it, Alice. I'll remember it all someday, you'll see." He told me and I layed my head on his shoulder. "I heard you, you know?" I whispered and he raised an eyebrow, "What do you mean?" I smiled a bit. "Kirito, you literally guided my way. I could hear your voice, feel you close to my heart, and I... I could see your face sometimes. You... you told me that I wasn't alone, not to cry, you told me that we'd meet again, you told me to do what I thought was right, and you told me that you were waiting..." I teared up a bit only to feel a hand wiping my tears away. "Sounds like stuff I'd say, but maybe it's just our souls? Maybe our souls our tied together and that was mine asking for help, a way back to happiness, the only way it could?" He wondered and I gently gripped his hand. "Maybe, maybe..." I sighed happily, just enjoying the veiw as I stayed close to him.
After a while of being a bit closer than I should be, I finally stood up. Kirito started to speak "Alice, I've made up my mind. I'm going to fight for this world and what I believe in. I'll raise my sword against the chur-" Kirito then let out a pained growl. "Kirito?! What's wrong!" I asked, Kirito was shaking as he got to his feet, holding his left eye. "I.... I am not a puppet! I'm not some... some stupid toy! I'M A HUMAN BEING!!" His voice boomed as he screamed torwards the stars, I realized that the Administrator must've done something more than block his memories. "I will not bow, I won't break... I will never be crushed! NOT NOW OR EVER!!!! MY NAME IS KIRITO! I AM KIRITO THE SWORDSMAN!" His voice thundered as a purple light came from his forehead, it was the crystal. "Kirito, don't force it! You'll hurt yourself!" I yelled at him but he looked at me with a blue signal in his left eye. 'System error. 895.' I now understood that this was her means of controlling him. 'That message in his eye must be a punishment for disobedience, extreme pain meant to discourage treachery.' I thought. Kirito's eyes then narrowed as he looked at me. "I will fight. I will fight for what I believe in, for what is important to me. I pledge to myself, to justice and the Human Empire. The Church and Pontifex be damned. I WILL NOT BE CONTROLLED ANYMORE!!!" As he finished his speech, his left eye exploded in a violent burst of energy. No blood, it was like a Fireball exploded in his eye. He then passed out and I held him, looking at his face. "You always were a stubborn guy, Kirito..." I whispered as I gave him a makeshift eyepatch, I needed to save the resources for the climb up. Healing the eye could wait, I put an eyepatch on him. Picking him up and putting him on my back, I slowly began to climb.
