Chapter 13- A fractured mask

Eugeo and I went into the armory. He took his Blue Rose and sheathed it on his side. I put my Elucidator on my back however I did put on some light armor. A golden chestplate over my shirt, forearm guards, and  tight fitting shoulder armor. Eugeo then looked at me. "Maybe we should take some of the armor?" He asked and I shook my head. "Neither of us has worn full armor so it'll probably just slow us down and you've never used any armor so let's stick with what we know." An arrow slammed in front of the door and blew it open. I used a Burst Element to create a blinding light as we sprinted out. "Charge him!" I ordered, he merely said "Futile." He nearly hit me with an arrow. "System Call." He spoke and the air heated up. "Enchance Armament." The Knight said, fire engulfed his bow and him as well. "That bow is amazing, I wonder what it was before..." I said as I looked at his bow and Eugeo shot down my musings. "We've got bigger things to worry about!" "I last bathed in the Confragration Bow's Fires two years ago. Now, I summon the fire again to deal with you sinners. You have the skills to match Sir. Eldrie but what you did to him is unforgivable. Instead of fighting like knights with honor, you corrupted his mind using the Dark Arts." He monologued. "What?!?!? It was nothing like that, Sir Knight. All I did was remind him of who he was before he became a knight." I responded to him, causing him to give a reply that filled me with rage. "What are babbling about? We Knights do not have a past. We have always been Integrity Knights." I clenched my fist and took a step closer, "Our existence begins when we are Summoned from the Heavens. I should burn you sinners to ash for your crimes but my orders are to capture you alive." I glared at the knight as my eyes darkened, he continued. "Unfortunately, I have unleashed the Confragration Bow. Now, one of your arms will most likely be incinerated." He drew his bow back and I growled. "If I block the first strike, you need to charge him." Eugeo gulped and I moved a bit forward. "System Call. Generate Cryogenic Element." I started to run forward and uttered "Discharge." Which caused walls of ice to appear in front of me whoch would hold the Knight's attacks back. "Foolish Girl." He then released his bow string and a wave of fire met my walls of ice, slowly breaking through them. I drew my Elucidator and got ready to block the flames. I spun my sword to twist the flames, using the air and flames themselves as a barrier. I didn't last long, I was soon sent into a wall as Eugeo cried out my name in concern and I smiled. "Nows your chance, you dummy... go get him..." I then fell to the ground and started using the Sacred Arts to heal my burns. Eugeo charged forward with a war cry and jumped over the Knight's next attack. Clashing swords with the knight. "You can't let these weak flames... MELT YOU NOW!!!" He said as he overpowered the Knight and the Knight's arm was frozen, part of his helmet was cut off as well as his chest being frozen. 

I stood up and walked to him. Holding Elucidator tightly and the knight looked familiar.  "Boy, that first skill you used. What was it?" The Knight asked. "It's a two hit strike, Vertical Arc." Eugeo responded as I menacingly walked up the stares, my hair hiding my eyes as they bore a golden glow. "A two hit strike? And you, what was your skill called?" He asked me. "Spinning Shield." I responded coldly. He looked up a bit. "I thought I had seen it all. I've been from one end of this realm to the other, and beyond. Yet there are styles I've never seen and skills I've never encountered. I can tell there is much discipline in you and you have spent years training in your style. Earlier,  I accused you of using the Dark Arts to corrupt Sir. Eldrie. I know, now, that I was mistaken. I would be honored to know your names."  The Knight said. "Eugeo the Swordsman." Eugeo spoke up. "Alice Zuberg, The Swordswoman." I answered. He closed his eyes. "On the 50th floor, in the Great Hall, Integrity Knights await you. Should you pass me, they will not spare you. If you charge them head on like you did me, you will most certainly meet your ends." I tilted my head to the side as my eyes were still hidden. "Why tell us, whose side are you on?" I asked him without emotion. He looked down. "I failed to carry out Administrator's orders. As punishment, I shall be stripped of my armor and Divine Objectk the proof of my knighthood,  and will be frozen for eternity. I do not wish to suffer that indignity." He informed us. "Therefore, I want you to end my life. There is no need to hesitate, afterall, you defeated me fairly using your splendid skills." He told us. "By the way, my name is Deusolbert Synthesis Seven." I gripped my sword tighter as it glowed golden. He took him. Deusolbert took Kirito. "Alice...?" Eugeo asked wearily. "It was you... you're the one.... you took him..." I whispered. "A fair battle? Dignity? You want to die with honor, do you?" I rose up to my full height, having leaned down to look him in the eyes without realizing.  "DO YOU!!! Where was your honor when you chained up 11 year old boy, tied him to your dragon, and took him away?!?!?" I said as my eyes now had the golden haze of a cat. "DYING WITH HONOR IS TOO GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!" I raised my sword and went to behead him but I found something stopping my arm. 

"Wha-what? I.. I can't move my arm?" I said as I struggled to move it. "You heard him, he isn't going to fight back. You don't kill a defenseless person." It was Kirito. I gasped as my mind saw him there, holding my arm. Looking at me with disappointment, I slowly sheathed my sword. "If you want to die, kill yourself or face the Administrator's wrath. I won't do it.." I walked back, leaning over the railing of the stairs. "Old One, I mean, Deusolbert... 8 years ago, you came to my village and took Kirito... now, he is an Integrity Knight who calls himself Kirito Synthesis Thirty." I told him as I looked away. "But you don't remember that, do you?" I asked him. I heard him remove his helmet. "It is as you say. I am a Knight, I protect. I would never kidnap a child, much less chain them to my dragon. If I did, I do not remember. But I do know Sir. Kirito, the knight who oversees this city, he is infamous within the church for dressing in Black, being unnaturally skilled even for a knight, and carrying two swords." Deusolbert informed me. I nodded. "8 years ago, you were guarding the board of North Norlin Garth, do you remember that?" I asked him as I continued to look away. "Yes, District 7 in North Norlin Garth was mine. I used to patrol the borderlands. That is, until 8 years ago, for some reason... the church rewarded me. I received this armor and was given the duty to guard the Central Cathedral." He said and i nodded. "Do you recall what you were rewarded for?" I questioned. "No, I do not..." he admitted and I turned around, looking at him "The reason you do not remember is because the Administrator messed with your memory. She took Kirito's memories and made him into a Knight and messed with your memories so you wouldn't remember bringing him here." I informed him. "That evil woman tells all you knights that you were summoned from Heaven to explain why you don't remember your past." I explained. "No, it is you who is mistaken..." there was doubt in his voice, faint but there. "Try to remember something, anything from before you became a Knight." He then closed his eyes and was struggling to remember something. "Ever since my first day as a Knight, I keep having this same dream. A delicate hand shaking me awake and on ohe ginger, a silver ring. When I do wake up, there's no one there." He said as he held his head. "Don't try to force yourself to remember or you'll end up like Eldrie. But that dream is a memory, one so precious to you that erasing it would mean killing you." I told him. "Come, Eugeo, let's go."
