Song: In Cold Blood by Alt J

April 27

It had been a few days since the whole killing her dad and shredding him to bits in the garbage disposal thing. Every day she'd call his work, telling them how he has the flu and lost his voice. No one had questioned it so far, but she wonders how long she'll be able to keep it up.

Beverly likes having the house to herself. She's actually able to leave her room and have all the meals her heart desires. The girl had even found her dad's cash stash. But she was smart, therefor she knows better than to blow it all. Eventually she'll have to go on the run. Or maybe not. She should probably take a look under the sink. Maybe she should clean it a bit more.

But it's only been a few days, what's the worst that could happen? It's not like her life was about to change all of a sudden. She still goes to school and she still takes her walks. Plus, she's good at playing it cool. All Beverly has to do is keep quiet and everything will turn out the way she wants.

It's her senior year and she's almost eighteen. All she has to do is report a missing person report. Maybe she won't even do that. But she should if she wants the inheritance. Then she'll be on her way. It's not as if she didn't have her own stash. The girl has been saving since she was a kid. Not to mention she'll get her mother's inheritance too.

Beverly is set no matter what. There's no family left for her. She never made any friends. This town holds nothing for her, and quite frankly it's a bore. There's so much more to this world. She just wants to explore it. She just wants to get away.

She just wants some excitement.

Which is why she decided on a walk by the Barrens. It always helped settle her nerves. She might even call it a home away from home. School has been stressful today, so why not?

Except as she furthers her walk it seems she's not alone.

Ben Hanscom, a boy she's yet to meet. In fact to her he's just a nameless nobody.

That's what most people think of him. A nameless nobody. Fatty, fat boy, piggy, porker, freak, loser.

Ben has been bullied his entire life. At first he didn't mind. His mother warned him people were cruel. She should know best. She married the worst of them.

Fortunately Ben's father died years ago, leaving less stress on the both of them. Unfortunately trouble at school continued. It didn't seem to matter that his father had just passed. Not that he cared anyways.

But now it's been awhile since high school. Two years. He has a day job, not that it's any better. The customers are just as rude. Adults are just as bad. He thought losing some of the weight would help with that, but looks like that's not the case. Turns out it doesn't matter how much you weigh, people will still find a way to be unhappy with the way you look.

He was having a particular bad day when one customer pushed his last button. Ben recognized the man. A guy he'd been to school with all those years ago. Of course he was in school now, due to his parents wealth. Maybe Ben could've gotten scholarships and taken out loans, but he has a mother to look after. She only gets worse with age. The man doesn't know how much longer he even has with her. So he stayed.

Of course this jackass didn't care to learn that before popping off some snide comments. Once a moron, always a moron. Guess his new university didn't help with that.
