Song: Come a Little Closer by Cage the Elaphant
May 15
Days on the road seem to get slower and slower, at least for Bill. For Greta and Sydney, however, it's just exciting. Half the time they forget who they are and what they're even doing. Maybe it's wrong of them, but sometimes it feels good to feel normal.
Sydney never knew her mind could be so clear, but now here she is, sat with her twin on one side, and a beautiful girl on the other. Not to mention her best friend, Stanley, who has oddly brightened up since his brother being kidnapped. Part of the reason she thinks so is Emmitt.
Mike, Stanley, and Emmitt had gained an unusual friendship, considering Mike and Barber are nothing alike in the slightest. The new boy is almost like a mix between. Hard, cold, but also a total stoner who loves a good laugh. Oh, there's also Richie, who Stanley Barber absolutely loves. The bromance is in the air with those four.
Ben is still too obsessed with Bev to even try a new friendship. Bill is too depressed. Eddie just mostly likes hanging out with Bev, Syd, and Greta. As well as the new girl, Kate. He finds it comforting to have a new baby of the group. And she really is young, which Eddie thinks is the sweetest thing.
Emmitt and Kate surprisingly knew nothing of each other before the storm, considering he's eighteen and she's just twelve. She always argues, saying she's almost thirteen. The two woke up in a field, confused and oddly energetic. Kate had happened upon the storm after stabbing both parents, though she says they really did deserve it for being so mean. Emmitt stumbled upon the sight by taking a short walk, something he often did to clear his head.
Due to the fact that poor Kate was completely blood soaked and covered with dirt, Emmitt thought it might be best to take her back to his. At first she was iffy, especially when he mentioned his own parents. But after plenty of reassurance and an actual background check, which he found annoying, she agreed. The man kept her hid there, as well as taken care of. It wasn't long until the powers started, which only brought them closer. Kate was like the little sister he never had. A crazy, odd, psychopath of a sister, but a sister at that.
Kate can create a forcefield, but she's never used it so much until a day ago. The girl had only used it to protect herself from when Emmitt would throw pieces of cereal in her direction. She never imagined it'd work with bullets. Hell, she'd never imagined she'd be able to shield other people either. Still, Kate's got it far from figured out, though she's quite ready to try some more.
The girl, again, is young. Younger than anyone they'd seen yet, even with all the missing persons cases. She's very kind, even though also quite standoffish due to the past. But she's also loyal and stubborn and very protective over Emmitt, since she's known him the longest. Eddie is starting to grow on her, though. Overall, the group, even Bill, think Kate is quite the delight.
Emmitt has the power to teleport. He's still not quite sure how it all works, though he has figured out how to only teleport certain features of himself. Some of his favorite hobbies include teleporting only his feet, which stomp through the hall and down to Kate's bedroom, only to then scare the shit out of her. She's never amused, but he thinks it's cool. The boy wonders if there's more than just stepping himself through his own little pocket dimension portal thing. He's not really sure what to call it. Emmitt wants to try teleporting other people, but he's always been too afraid to let Kate be the test subject. These knuckleheads, however, can be his little lab rats all they want.
The man lacks a shit ton of empathy. Most of his answers end in I don't care and why should I care. The group discovered that he's also quite impatient and fearless, never afraid to even put Bill in his place. Much like Mike. But he's also much like Richie and Stanley Barber, which means mood swings and jokes and tons of curiosity. He had also mentioned the fact that he's transgender. One of the members found this very interesting.
Overall the two bright blue eyed newbies are well liked and settling in. They can't even believe they agreed in the first place, but both were way too interested in finding the truth. So now here they sit, smoking pot and playing games, closing in on their next location, which just so happens to be Breckenridge, Colorado.
It's dark out now, but it was a fourteen hour trip. Mike is driving, which Richie is thankful for. He needs the rest, plus his back was killing him. After hearing about the pain in his back, Eddie slipped in a little magic and cured it away.
"You're favorite color is seriously orange?" Sydney just about barfs.
"What's wrong with that? It's the color of your hair." Greta argues, though to anyone else it'd be dropping serious hints.
"I don't like to talk about it. Well, fine, orange it is. What's your favorite food?" Syd and Greta are practically cuddling, both even under the same blanket. Both Richie and Eddie often look to imaginary cameras, always giving little looks. No one questions it.
"That's a hard one, but I really like pasta. Any kind of pasta."
"No way, really? Me too."
The vehicle comes to a sudden stop, slinging everyone to the ground and on top of one another. "What the hell, Mike!" Richie shames, even if he's not mad. How could he be when Eddie had been the one to land on his stomach?
"I-... Sorry. There's someone out there. I don't know what happened-..." Mike stumbles, which is unlike him. His eyes seem to be glazed over too, as if he can't see.
Everyone rushes to his side, Greta and Syd are the first there. Eddie is soon after, but it's not Mike he's looking to. It's a girl with dark hair and royal purple eyes. She stays put in the shadows, making it impossible for him to study the details further. Soon the curiosity flows away like it was never there in the first place. Instead a sense of fear sparks him, which is something that almost never happens. His chest feels heavy, too heavy, but then that goes away too. Not before Richie gets a site of him, though.
But even with the questions, both to Mike and Eddie, they can't seem to focus. Each of their gaze settles on the girl outside, she's still unseen by the rest. Neither boy can think about anyone or anything other than her. And both wonder the same. Who the fuck is that?
