Song: Fire by Barns Courtney

May 5

The group is now back to Syd's place, only there's a minor problem. Fire surrounds almost everything in sight, including the house next door. Everyone knows something must've gone bad. Everyone except Sydney, who begins to panic.

"Fuck." Greta is on her feet and traveling towards the flames.

Sydney grabs the girl's wrist, though she's not sure why. "Are you crazy? Don't go in there!" Her eyes then travel to a nearby house. Her house.

The girl hurries inside in search for her mom and brother. The fire is getting close and she has no way of stopping it, meaning her family needs to get out now. Finally her eyes fall upon her mother, who sits on the couch folding laundry. Maggie smiles awkwardly when seeing her daughter. She's not sure what to say after the last outburst.

"You changed. And your hair is short again. You feel better?"

"What are you talking about?" Sydney's brows furrow. They don't stay like that for long, though.

Beverly.

The group told her she'd be here, but she thought maybe that was to have a conversation and explain things. Not pretend to be Sydney. Though she's not really sure what happened. All she knows is that her mother has no idea her other daughter was here. Or is here.

Speaking of Beverly, where the hell is she?

"Where's Liam?" Sydney's panic starts all over again. She had almost forgot their backyard is bursting into flames. Not to mention the house next door.

"He's in his room, why?"

"Okay you need to get Liam and get the hell out."

"Language!" Maggie scolds.

"Please! Can you just take me serious for once!" The girl pleads, eyes begging for her to just shut up and listen.

"Is something wrong?"

Sydney rubs at her forehead. "Dammit, mom. Our house could burst into flames in any minute. Get Liam and go!"

The girl turns away from her mother and heads for the door, trying to stay calm. Why is she so angry? It's not as if her mom had even done anything wrong. Syd takes a deep breath once out the door. Greta greets her with a smile.

"About time."

Sydney's face turns towards the other and she can't help it when her lips turn up. "Yeah."

The two fall into step and quickly meet back with the others. Only there's a new face this time. A tall man with large muscles. His hair is a mess and there's a bit of dirt on the side of his cheek. He seems to be freaking it, which is enough for her to tune into the conversation.

When the new man's eyes land upon her he smiles. "Bev! You're okay!"

Greta cuts in for her. "That's not Bev, meaning Bev's not okay?"

Ben looks puzzled, but then he takes notice of the short hair and frowns. "She started this. I don't think she meant to. I've never seen her so angry."

"So where is she?" Richie looks around.

"She's still in there, surrounded."

Eddie crosses his arms. "Well why are you so upset? It's not as if it will hurt her."

Ben grows frustrated, but still somehow stays calm. "Yeah, but I don't know. Guys I've never seen her like that. Her powers aren't just what we've seen. She literally grabbed the flames and parted a path to save me. Beverly used all of her energy to save me. And now she won't get up. So even if she can't burn, she's not okay."

Sydney's eyes roam the area in terror. "Yeah well she's not exactly the only one impacted by this fucking mess. That house is literally on fire and mine could be next."

"And who are you?"

"You first." She's not much of a fan.

"Ben."

"Well big Ben, I don't suppose you have any way of putting this out?"

The man's eyes shrink as he takes a step forward. "Beverly could be in there dying. What's your problem?"

"What's my problem? My house might burn down. That's my problem. Either way putting out this fire is the main priority and none of you fuckers even know how to do that."

Greta bumps into the girl's shoulders a bit. "They're not exactly the empath type." Her voice is a whisper, yet everyone can hear.

Sydney sighs. "Unbelievable." She reaches for her phone and travels away from the group. Only she would be the one to get kidnapped by a group of psychopaths with powers.

Suddenly she realizes how familiar that sounds.

And then she realizes another thing when looking at all of the messages on her phone. How could she have forgotten about Brad? Will her life ever stop being a confusing mess?

Syd sighs before calling the number that had text her over a hundred times. She knows she's going to have to explain herself, but one thing at a time.

"Hey. I'm gonna need your help."
