'Camille come here please!' I called out to my ten-year-old daughter, who was currently running around with our dog, Pippy, outside.
'No!' she laughed and I just shook my head before walking outside to bring her back inside, as she was covered in mud and god knows what from playing outside all day.
'Everybody is going to be here soon, please take a shower sweetheart and put on the clothes that are on your bed,' I said gently to the little girl who looks just like me.
'Is Uncle Calum going to be here?' she asked, her blue eyes wide with wonder. When I nodded in response to her and she squealed before running upstairs to take her shower. Calum is Camille's godfather and she adores him, even more than I think she loves Luke and me.
'Hey mum, do you know where dad is?' our fifteen-year-old son, Maxwell, asked me as he appeared in our kitchen, where I was finishing off the salads for our dinner tonight.
'I think he is in the study, he had one last essay to mark I recall,' I said.
'I need help with some song lyrics,' Max said and I nodded with a smile. Our eldest out of the two, Maxwell, was a very talented musician and had a knack for songwriting, and so did my husband apparently. The two would spend hours on end writing songs and playing music together, which was a sight to see since Max was talented and Luke was not half bad either.
'If he is finishing marking the essay I'm sure he will help you,' I said with a smile and Max nodded before running out of the kitchen and down the hallway to where Luke's office was.
Luke and I still live in Cambridge but we moved out of Luke's family's house after I gave birth to Max, almost sixteen years ago. Luke is now an English professor at Cambridge University and I am the head of the Cardiovascular unit at the Royal Cambridge Hospital, where I have been working since I completed my residency.
Between Luke being a university professor and myself being a cardiovascular surgeon, it's hard to get time together as a family for longer than five hours at a time, which is what makes days like today so special. We had decided to celebrate Ashton and Luke's birthdays together, which is always a fun occasion for everyone involved.
'Honey I'm home!' Calum called out from the hallway, the sound of little feet running to the kitchen where I was.
'Aunty Belle!' Rebecca called out when she saw me. She was their youngest, at four, then they had the twins Mimi and Ivy who are the same age as Maxwell and then their eldest, Alexandra, who was seventeen. Calum and Eloise definitely have their hands full with four girls but I do not think they would have it any other way.
'How are you, Rebecca?' I asked the little girl, who has Calum's face with Eloise's eyes. She was now in my arms, resting her head against my collarbone.
'Good! Where is Cami?' she asked, using the nickname that my daughter has adopted.
'Getting ready, she will be down soon,' I said with a smile and she nodded as she headed to the playroom with the rest of her sisters. Calum and Eloise stayed in the kitchen with me whilst we waited for the rest of our friends to arrive, and Luke and Max to leave the study.
Ashton and Violet were the next to arrive, with their three boys, James who is seven, Jasper who is eleven and Henry who is seventeen, who is 'apparently' according to Maxwell, dating Alexandra.
