chapter twenty two. sweet like candy ════ ⋆͛♡⋆͛ ════
ELIZA WAS ALWAYS intuitive. It was one of her many traits that made Chris train her as young as he did. She was the perfect hunter at the age of fifteen. That's why it was so easy to read Stefan. He tried to hide it but eliza could read between the lines. Ever since they left Southern Comfort, he hadn't stopped frowning. What the hell did Damon say to him?
Nonetheless, Eliza was utterly drained today. Today was usually her favorite day of the year but it was the worst. As far as Eliza could tell, her 18th birthday was shit. She felt as if she was belittling Elena's memory if she celebrated. That's why she didn't say anything about the date.
The quartet walked up the mountains of some forest, Stefan carrying an unconscious Ray on his shoulders. Apparently, while Stefan was gone and Eliza was day dreaming, Klaus managed to get the pack-gathering information out of Ray and he fed him his blood and snapped his neck.
Eliza was on Isaac's back, not wanting to walking in her heels.
"You okay?" Klaus questioned Stefan as they continued to trudge up the mountain. "Is Ray getting heavy?"
"I'm fine," Stefan replied flatly.
"You sure about that?" Klaus teased. "You know, we've been walking for quite some time now. If you need some water, or a little sit-down..."
"You know, I get that we're all, uh...we're stuck together," Stefan began as he shifted Ray on his shoulder, "but if we could maybe just skip the chit-chat unless it involves Eliza, that'd be great."
"So much brooding. Your self-loathing is suffocating you, my friend."
"Can't afford another frown line on an already crowded forehead, Stef," Eliza teased.
Stefan rolled his eyes. "Maybe it's 'cause I'm a little tired of hunting werewolves. We've been at it all summer."
"Can't say I disagree with him there," Isaac sighed. "It's definitely tiring."
"Well, thanks to our pal Ray, we found ourselves a pack." Klaus gestured to the area in front of them. "There."
The trio came to a stop, spotting a camp in front of them. Stefan walked inside the camp with Ray's body and dropped it, causing everyone to look up at him. A woman then rushed to Ray's side in a panic. "Ray!" she cried. "Oh, my God. What's going on?" She looked up at Stefan. "Who are you?"
"The important question is," Klaus began as he entered the camp alongside Stefan, "who am I. Please forgive the intrusion. My name is Klaus."
"You're the hybrid." Klaus grinned wickedly. "You've heard of me. Fantastic."
