ELIZA GASPED AWAKE, breathing heavily as she tried to place where she was. Looking around, she noticed her surroundings had changed. She was in a hotel room, in a rather comfortable bed, in blood soaked clothes. Worst birthday ever.

"Klaus?" She spoke, throwing her legs over the side of the queen sized bed. She went in her bra, sliding out her small little contacts case. Plucking them from her eyes, she blinked heavily.

She set them down on the bedside table, standing up. Her clothes were bloody and sticky, she felt dirty. Peeling the white spaghetti corset from her skin, she tossed it in the garbage can. She kicked off her white boot heels, reveling in the flatness of the carpet. Now Eliza loved her heels and would rather be caught dead than in flats, but man do they hurt after almost dying. She was about to peel her bloodied jeans off when she sensed someone behind her.

"If I'd known about this, I wouldn't have gotten fully dressed." Klaus teased as he stepped out of the steamy bathroom, running a towel through his damp hair, now fully dressed in a dark shirt and slacks.

"You'd like that, wouldn't you?" Eliza chuckled, taking the scrunchie off her wrist. She reached her, twisting her hair into a messy bun before securing it.

His footsteps were light, almost effortless as he moved. Just as he passed Eliza, a small, cool hand wrapped around his wrist, halting him mid-step. He turned, arching a brow at her in question.

"Thank you," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.

Klaus tilted his head, feigning nonchalance. "For what?"

Eliza hesitated for a beat, then met his gaze head-on. "For not letting me die."

His lips curled slightly, almost amused. "I don't know what you're talking about."

She scoffed, shaking her head. "Come on. Even the Grinch had a little heart."

His eyes narrowed playfully. "Did you just compare me to a hairy green creature?"

"Yes, I did. And what about it?"

A low chuckle rumbled in his chest as he shook his head. "You are an enigma."

She smirked. "And you're... interesting."

Klaus quirked a brow. "Is that an insult or a compliment?"

Eliza merely shrugged, offering him no clear answer. His gaze flickered downward, to where her hand still clung to his wrist. His own wrist, strong and broad, looked almost engulfed in her smaller grasp. He stared at it for a moment before shifting his gaze back to her. She followed his eyes, realizing the weight of her touch, and quickly let go.
