~Percy's PoV~

Grover and I had just boarded a Greyhound bus to the center of New York City. Though on an off-route the bus had broken down. The driver had us all exit the bus as he was trying to fix the problem. Grover and I just stood there as we waited for the bus driver to fix the problem. I just walked around kicking a rock repeatedly. I looked up from my feet and saw a fruit stand.

In the fruit stand was 3 old ladies, sitting on some fold-out chairs.  They were knitting what seemed to be a humongous blue sock. With its size, it seemed to be large enough to be a sweater. Using 'Observation' on them produced a strange product.

Commonly called the Weaver's of Fate, They can turn the fate of most sentient beings. Though some have an unpredictable nature which causes them to be more difficult to impossible to control.

That would have caused a heart attack if I didn't have 'Gamer's Mind'. Even when I scanned Aphrodite I was able to see her stats and level. But these beings had enough power to cause even my abilities to go haywire. They looked up at me and just stared. The one on the end took a very large pair of scissors and cut the connecting yarn to the big sock. Grover came up behind me and pulled me back. He had a nervous expression on his face and he was beading sweat. I couldn't tell if that was from the summer heat or knowing about the Fates.

I was fairly curious about the sock though. It seemed like they had appeared just to show me. I heard the tales of them in the Greek class, Mr.Brunner taught us.

The bus driver seemed to finally fix the problem because he called out to everyone to get back on board. As we got on I looked out the window. The Fates weren't at the fruit stand anymore. Which was a shame I was thinking of purchasing a fresh apple from them.

As we finally got off at the bus stop Grover made me promise to let him walk me home, as I promised he left and went to the bathroom. Not wanting him to see my terrible living condition I left for my apartment.

Walking down the New York streets dragging a suitcase behind me with a back slung across my back was boring. I just walked on the side-walks in the blistering summer heat. It was a good 81° Fahrenheit(Around 27° Celsius for anyone who doesn't use Fahrenheit.) I walked for a good couple of minutes hearing the traffic and people around me.

After a while, I got to stop in front of the apartment complex I got to call home. I walked past the entryway and started the hassle of carrying the suitcase upstairs. When I got it up the stairs I wheeled it in front of my apartment and used my key to unlock and open the door.

As soon as I opened it I was met with the disgusting mixed smell of cigarettes and beer. I walked up the stairs to the living room. I saw Gabe, my disgusting step-dad, and his buddies playing poker.

Gabe looked over at me with a cigarette in his mouth, "Pay up the rent." "Ohh come on Gabe the kid just got back." One of his poker friends said. I pulled $20 out of my inventory behind my back. I tossed the $20 bill at his side of the table. I walked past the table to the hallway. I opened the door to my room and saw car magazines, burnt out cigarettes, and empty beer bottles.

I sat on my bed. Even though this was my bedroom, when I was away Gabe still used it as a trash room or as he called it 'A collector's room'. His muddy old boots sat next to my bed and other garbage laid strewn across the floor.

I heard a door open downstairs and someone heading up the stairs. I continued to lay still but on the inside, I was as excited as could be. Even with 'Gamer's Mind' I still couldn't help but be happy at the thought of seeing my mom.

She opened the door to my bedroom. She was still in her work uniform at a candy store. Even though she wasn't as young as she used to be she was still beautiful. She had brown slightly graying hair, gentle blue eyes, and a kind heart. In my opinion, she was out of Gabe's league by a hundredfold.

Without words, I stood up and collided with her in a bear hug. We sat down on my bed, she was asking me questions any mother would ask. "How was school? Did you get enough to eat? How's Grover?" Things like that. I answered them with delight.

"I was making a plan on just us going to Montauk." She said to me. "Just the two of us?" I asked "Just you and me for a whole week." She confirmed. I was practically jumping up and down with excitement.

"SALLY, WHERE'S THE SIX LAYER CHIP DIP?!" I heard Gabe yell from down the hall. "Just a moment dear!" My mom called back. "You should get packed up honey." She then stood up and walked out the door to the hallway, most likely going to make Smelly Gabe's Chip Dip.

I immediately stood up and started throwing things into a bag I grabbed from the closet. I just threw in things I thought I would need. I just put clothing and some other things I thought would be fun to play around with.

After she had made him the dip my mom packed up and we were ready to leave. "Percy and I are going to Montauk like we talked about, We need to borrow the Camaro." She said up the stairs. "As long as it's coming from your shopping money!" He yelled down as my mom grabbed the keys. Gabe came down the steps and looked me in the eyes and said "Not. One. Scratch on her or else." "Don't worry Gabe I'll bring her home in one peace." My mom said by the door.

I spun around and we both left the apartment to the yellow Camaro. I threw my bag into the back and put my seat-belt on. As my mom got in she stepped on it and we were off to Montauk Beach.
