Chapter 19
Rey was thrusted into a dream, or was it reality? She had come down the stairs after hearing a little girl scream, she turned into a room, held a metal tube, and -
She heard an ignition of something. She pulled her hand away from the tube, but it was too late. Mechanical breathing filled her head as she saw a dark hallway.
"No!" A little girl screamed. Rey couldn't comprehend what was happening. She turned around endlessly, confusion erupting in her brain.
A corridor opened beside her and she ran through it, desperate for escape. But instead of an exit, she found the room was tilting, turning, she was falling. Falling to the wall, which was now the ground, which was now grass. Dry, dead grass. Heat radiated to her face as she watched a temple burn in the night. A man and a droid watching the flames. The man had a metal arm now.
Rain. Rey looked up to see someone with a glowing red sword through them. He screamed and fell.
A battle field. She was on a battle field now. Rey found herself on the ground, so she stood. But someone was behind her. A man in dark robes and a mask, six other shadowed men behind him.
Rey was wet to the bone. The sun quickly returned, as did she to - Jakku. A small girl screamed. The same girl from before. She was terrified, and - Unkar. Unkar Plutt was holding her back.
"No, come back!" The girl shouted. It was her. Rey. Years ago. She couldn't understand how this was possible.
"Quiet, girl!" He ripped her with him. A ship flew away from the desert planet. The sun was eclipsed and disappeared into darkness again.
Cold again. But not just that. Snow. A blanket of powder over the ground. Rey was profoundly confused now, she thought she was losing her mind.
Battle. Sword against sword, but they weren't hard, they were -
- Energy. She walked to the energy. To the sounds.
The shadowed man again. She let out a scream at the sight. At the feeling of pure adrenaline and fear mixing in her blood to form -
- Energy. She fell back, landing in the room she was in before, her friend at her side.
"Rey!" She shouted. Maz was in the back of the hallway.
Rey was shaken beyond repair. "What was that?" She asked the girl next to her. "I shouldn't have gone in there," She told the small figure approaching her.
"That lightsaber was Luke's," Maz said. "And his father's before him and now," Padme knew Rey was special now. It became crystal clear in that moment. "It calls to you!"
Rey sat up so fast she thought she may fall again. "I have to get back to Jakku."
"Han told me," Maz shrugged and reached to grab Rey's hand, which was hesitantly given. "Dear child. I see your eyes. You already know the truth," Maz informed. "Whomever you're waiting for on Jakku, they're never coming back. But," Maz looked at Padme now. "There's someone who still could."
"Luke," Rey said.
"The belonging you seek is not behind you. It is ahead," Maz explained. "I am no Jedi, but I know the Force. It moves through and surrounds every living thing," Maz gave her wisdom to the young girl. "Close your eyes. Feel it."
Rey closed her eyes and let go. "The light. It's always been there. It will guide you," She said. "The saber. Take it."
Rey stood up quickly. "I'm never touching that again. I don't want any part of this."
And with that, Rey was gone, running up the stairs. BB-8 followed her. Padme was glad he did. She needed the extra assist.
She had forgotten the data was with him.
"Should I follow her?" Padme asked, but she already knew the answer would be no. Rey had to do this on her own.
"Does she know?" Maz asked the girl next to her.
"No, I haven't told her yet. It hasn't come up," Padme answered. She knew she would have to tell Rey about her father at some point, especially now that his saber was calling to her.
"Child," Maz said, walking to the staircase. "You think too much. Just like your father," Maz finished.
Padme let her walk ahead, but followed her once she was out of sight.
"Do you think she'll be okay?" She asked her astromech.
She responded slowly.
"Yeah, I hope so too," She said. She started to walk to the stairs, but rumbling soon filled her body. She sensed something was coming. Something she was not prepared for.
She pulled the droid into the air and ran up the stairs with ease. When she reached the top, she let the droid go fairly quickly. She sprinted outside, droid on her heels. Han and Chewie were already out.
A red line in the sky illuminated the First Order's plans quite quickly. The line split into multiple, exploding in circles at the end of the line. The First Order was demolishing rebel planets. All but one, who was left to watch.
Earth was being ripped from the core, lava erupting from the cracks and crevices of every planet.
Padme felt horror, then emptiness. They were all dead.
People flooded out of the castle to look at the fireworks show of terror in the sky.
"Oh no," She said, along with hundreds of others in their own languages.
"It was the Republic!" Finn shouted while running for them. The group looked at him with sorrow in their eyes. Sorrow from the billions of people that had just died, but also sorrow at seeing Finn again. They thought he had left. Padme did, at least. She was disappointed that he was back. She knew it meant he wasn't safe. This was a rebel planet, she knew they would be next.
"The First Order, they've done it," He stumbled out. He looked at the three. "Where's Rey?"
"Don't know. We had a run in with," Can't risk that information getting to the Order. "Something. She ran off," Padme explained.
Panic soon faded to something more when an entire fleet of First Order ships showed in the sky.
"We have to go to Maz," Han said. "She'll know how to contact the rebels."
"If they aren't already on their way," Padme inserted. The four organics and BB-7 ran back inside in search of Maz. Padme knew BB-8 was safe with Rey, he always would be. Poe would have been jealous of their quick friendship. Hell, even she was.
Han and Chewie ran behind Padme and BB-7, Finn was following them in the back.
Padme saw Maz coming back to the stairs looking for someone, but both stopped looking when they saw each other.
"Come quickly!"
