Chapter 20

"Come quickly!" She instructed them all. Padme lifted BB-7 again to go down the stairs.

They briskly walked down the hallway to the treasure room they had left earlier.

"I've had this for ages," Maz said at the opening of the room.

"Wait Maz," She objected. "Are you sure this is a good idea?" If the first order got a hold on this saber, it could lead them to Luke.

"No idea is good or bad child," She said. She opened the chest and took out Luke's lightsaber. "I kept it locked away," She said. Her father's saber was handed to her, but she couldn't accept it.

"I can't," She stumbled on her words. "I'm sorry, I can't. This is a bad idea," She said. Her heart was beating so fast all the sudden.

Her thoughts warped into memories. Fears. What if Ben was here? No, what if Kylo Ren was here? Ben left a long time ago. Someone new was in his body, someone conflicted, someone hurt. What if the First Order got to her father before she did? What if they got BB-8? Then they would have the map. It may only be a piece, but the others couldn't be out of their reach.

She tripped on the stairs when the castle shook her out of her own head. "Those beasts! They're here!" She heard Maz exclaim.

Padme cut off her thoughts, cut off her senses until a later time when she could afford to think. But for now, using the force or her head was off the table.

Approaching the edge of what used to be the oldest standing castle in the sector, Han, Chewie, Finn, Maz, Padme and BB-7 climbed out to see what they were up against.

"Come on, Chewie!" Han urged his friend to keep up, as did Padme.

"BB-7, keep up!" She shouted to her droid.

"Rey and BB-8, they need you. Now go!" Maz instructed.

"I'll find Rey," Padme said.

"I need a weapon," Finn said. Maz grabbed his arm and looked at the lightsaber.

"You have one!" Maz said. Finn was incredibly confused. He had no idea how to wield a lightsaber.

"Don't die please," Padme said, grabbing his free hand and squeezing it. Sure, they had problems, but they didn't really have time to argue right then.

They scattered. Padme ran to look for Rey, but had no idea where to start. First, she tried the worst way to find someone. It seemed a good place to start at first.

"Rey!" She shouted, while running frantically. "Rey! Where are you?" She was getting nowhere, and her panic was setting in. Everything was blurring, screams bursted her eardrums, shots fired around her, but none were hitting her. She wanted to reach out, to find her friend through the force, but she couldn't. Her subconscious had built a wall between her and the force, just like her father had.

It's happening, she thought. Her heart raced, but slowed at the same time.

Her focus was pulled when she saw Finn pinned down by a trooper not to far away from her. A blast was shot towards her, but it hit the trooper straight in the back. When he fell, Padme saw the face of her uncle blocked by Chewie's blaster. She turned away now, searching for Rey again.

Her brain wouldn't work. It just wasn't clicking. All she could think of was sadness. Her panic turned to solemnity, hurt, betrayal. The world worked it's ways slowly now, every small thing blurred, every big explosion ten times hotter, ten times brighter. Her thoughts, ten times louder. Screams were ten times louder as well. She could feel the death ten times as much. All the Force was feeding her now was death. Darkness. Cold spread from her heart.
