Chapter 23

There was so much more she wanted to say, but maybe it was better they were left unanswered.
Padme sat in the lounge room with autopilot taking her back to the base. She was frustrated with Han and Leia, but they were family. She needed to make amends, before darkness took her too.
Sev was gone, she knew that. Nothing, not even the best mechanic in the galaxy could bring her droid back.
Besides, the body was probably trashed by now, or scavenged for parts.
The falcon kicked up dust when it landed on it's platform. Familiar faces lined the rim of the outcropping. She couldn't see their faces, but she knew she was going to be okay.
When she landed, she put on a fake smile. She only hoped the fake part would go away.
Alone, she stepped out of the ship. Finn was first to the podium. "Padme," He hugged her with all his might, which was a surprisingly large amount.
"Hi, Finn," she hugged him back, kissing him on the cheek. To be quite honest, having him with her would have made her last interaction a lot easier for her, though Ben and Finn wouldn't have been so kind to each other.
Next, Threepio. "Oh, it's so wonderful to see you again, Miss," his cheerful automated voice lightened the mood again.
Han came next. "Hey, kid," Leia walked up behind him.
"We shouldn't have -"
"I'm sorry," She interrupted her aunt. "I shouldn't have yelled. I understand why you didn't tell me."
They were shocked. "Really?" Her uncle spoke up. Padme smiled and took him into a hug, closing her eyes. "I love you."
"I love you too, kid," He mumbled back. Padme let go and looked at her aunt.
Leia smiled her signature smile. "Come here," She said, opening her arms. Padme smiled back and hugged her tightly.
"I love you," They said at the same time, letting go and laughing together. She was angry, but Padme knew her family only wanted to protect her, and it had worked. Until it didn't.
Something hit her calf. BB-8 was trying to get her attention. She turned and knelt down to look at her friend. "Hey, BB-8," She stroked his head. His head rotated to look back at the ramp onto the falcon. He was looking for his counterpart.
"I'm sorry, BB-8. She didn't make it," His sorrowful beeps came after. His head drooped low, just like it had when he heard Poe had died.
His head shot up though. Padme was confused, and smiled a bit. "What?"
"Hey, Phoenix."
Padme's eyes shot open. She practically jumped up and turned to look at the pilot in front of her.
She stood in shock. "Poe?" She asked. He smiled his cocky smile. "Poe!" She ran and hugged him harder than Finn had hugged her. "I thought you were dead," She whispered into his neck.
"I thought you guys were," He laughed a bit. She gripped even harder. "Ow," He chuckled.
"I don't care," She said. He laughed again.
"I know you don't, red," She smiled and dug her face further into his shoulder.
Finally, she let go. "Red?" She asked, smiling.
