Chapter 29

They left hyperspace milliseconds from impact with the planet. Han and Chewie ejected them 100 feet above the ground, putting them in direct contact with trees immediately.

Adrenaline rushed through all their bodies as they fought to stay in control of the speeding freighter.

Chewie groaned for Han to go up. "I am pulling up!" He shouted back. Stress was indicated by the vein popping out of Han's neck, as well as the apparent comfort Padme and Finn wished for through their hands. White knuckles indicated how hard they were holding on to the other's hand.

Han pulled them right above the treeline and Chewie groaned again. "I get any higher, they'll see us!" And he dove back down again.

Padme and Han heard the crackling of the falcon's shell being mauled by the trees, when they suddenly emerged out of the forest and slammed into the snow. They continued to slide until Padme saw a cliff at the end of their path.

"Han," She muttered, grabbing his shoulder with her free hand. They all thought they were done for. If Threepio was there with them, he would be having a field day with odds.

They slowed down and finally came to a stop right before the cliff.

Padme felt a connection to someone on the ship as soon as they stopped. A pull to the darkness indicated it could only be one person. "Ben."

Han looked up at her knowingly. He was on the base, waiting for them. He knew they were coming, it was only a matter of time before they were captured, maybe even killed.

"Who?" Finn asked.

Padme looked up at him with the most confused face he had ever seen. "Where have you been the last 8 hours?"

They crossed until they were near an entrance to the base. Walkers were visible on the horizon.

"The flooding tunnels are over that ridge. We'll get in that way," Finn said.

"What was your job when you were based here?" Padme asked him. He must have been in an important job to know how to -

"Sanitation."

"Sanitation?!" Han looked at him with such frustration and disbelief. "Then how do you know how to disable the shields?!"

"I don't. I'm just here to get Rey."

"Great," Padme scoffed.

"People are counting on us! The galaxy is counting on us!" Han scolded.

"Solo, we'll figure it out!" He told him, turning to Padme with wide eyes. "We'll use the Force!"

"That's not how the Force works!"

"Weeeeeellllll," Padme said. Han looked at her pointedly. "I mean I could search for her, but if I did, Kylo Ren would find us." They were silent for a second, thinking of their chances. "I don't think it's worth the risks," She said. "We will find her, Finn."

Chewie groaned again, making Padme smile out of anger.

"Oh really, you're cold?"

"Come on!" Finn started towards the base.

Finn, Han, Chewie and Padme waited in a transport compartment until a trooper opened it.

"Hey!" He shouted, before Chewie shot him back. They walked up to the trooper and Chewie dragged him to the side.

Han and Finn looked around a corner, watching for other troopers.

"The longer we're here, less luck we're going to have. The shields?" Han asked.

"I have an idea about that," He said, mischievously. He left the room and Han, Padme and Chewie followed.

Chewie groaned quietly. "That makes two of us," Padme responded.

They rounded a corner after Finn told them the plan.

Just on time, tinhead walked down the corridor and Chewie jumped her, shoving her into a side corridor. He held her still while Han and Padme walked calmly towards her. Finn was less calm, excited to get revenge on his former captain.

"Remember me?" Finn asked her, Han and Padme behind him for moral support.

"FN-2187," She muttered, torturously slow.

"Not anymore. The name's Finn, and I'm in charge. I'm in charge now, Phasma. I'm in charge!"

"Finn," Padme warned.

"Bring it down, kid."

"Follow me," Finn smiled in victory and walked to a control point. Chewie shoved her into the chair and held her there while she took down the shields. Everyone had their blasters aimed at her while she worked. Everyone except Padme, who had one hand on her lucky red jacket and one on where her saber STILL WASN'T. She made a mental note to keep it on her when she got back. She hadn't used it in a long time, but she needed it these days.

"You want me to blast that bucket off your head? Lower the shields," Finn ordered. Padme was surprised that such a teddy bear could be so threatening. It was a good look on him, authority. He'd be a good general one day, force forbid Leia retired or something.

"You're making a big mistake," Captain Phasma warned.

"Do it," Finn ordered. Padme shivered at the words, and she didn't know why.

Chewie groaned again and Phasma followed through with the last steps in disabling the shields.

"Solo, if this works, we're not going to have a lot of time to find Rey," Finn mentioned.

"Don't worry kid, we won't leave here without her," He said. Controls beeped when Phasma finished disabling the shields.

"You can't be so stupid as to think this will be easy. My troops will storm this block and kill you all," Phasma threatened.

"I disagree. What do we do with her?" Finn asked the group.

"Is there a garbage chute? Trash compactor?" Han asked.

"Yeah, there is," Finn laughed.

"We don't have time for that right now. We have to go get Rey," Padme said.

"Right," Finn was pulled out of his fantasies of watching Phasma get smashed into a pancake.

"We need to go set the charges."
