Chapter 25

"General, I regret to inform you, but this map recovered from BB-8 is only partially complete. And even worse, it matches no charted system on record. We simply do not have enough information to locate Master Luke," C3PO announced.

Padme was now standing next to her aunt and uncle. When the news registered with Leia, it wasn't quite with Padme.

"I can't believe I was so foolish to think that I could just find Luke and bring him home," She said, looking at Han. She wrapped her arm around Padme and looked down.

"Leia," Han tried to console her, but it was no use. He was upset too, and she could tell.

"Don't do that," Leia said.

"Do what?" But Han's question was ignored, and Leia walked away.

"Anything," She muttered as she was leaving.

"So that's it?" Padme asked in a small voice. She couldn't look at Han. She didn't blame him, but she still didn't want to talk. She knew he would try, so she walked after her aunt.

"Princesses," She heard Threepio say. Padme ran to catch up with Leia, but heard a third set of footsteps behind her.

"I'm trying to be helpful!" Han shouted to the women.

"When did that ever help? And don't say the Death Star," Leia turned around to argue with her husband.

All Han did was sigh.

"There has to be another way, right? Maybe we can let the force guide us," Padme suggested earnestly, but she knew the answer.

"He's cut himself off. He doesn't want us to find him," Leia told her solemnly.

"No, there must be another, there has to be more," Padme rambled. Tears started to form in her eyes thinking about the odds of her finding her father again. She tried to walk off, but Han grabbed her arm before she got very far.

"Kid -"

"I have to find my father."

"Listen to me, will you?" He asked, but Padme didn't want to hear anymore. She walked away, but Leia stayed in place.

Padme walked briskly back to Ekimi, who was waiting patiently by the doorway out to the hanger.

When she heard the news, she knew Padme was going to make a rash decision, and she knew she would have to try to stop her.

Padme approached her, and Ekimi walked forwards. "Padme, don't," She advised.

"Please move," Padme warned.

"Padme, you need to calm down. There's nothing we can do right now."

"That's exactly the problem," She fought. I need to go find more, I need to find him."

"And we will, but we need to be patient. Isn't that what he would want?" That struck a nerve in Padme, a nerve she didn't expect to be struck. Ekimi saw it, too. So, she continued that train of thought. "Isn't that the Jedi way?"

"I'm not a Jedi," Padme said. Which was true, she never graduated. But she was one of the last, at least for now.

"But you were," Her friend continued. "And when you were, patience was important."

Padme stayed silent. She knew Ekimi was right, but she couldn't bear to think that just waiting was the answer.

"I know every time you," He paused, looking back at the young Skywalker walking away. He turned back. "Every time you look at me, you're reminded of him."

"You think I want to forget him? I want him back!" She fought, talking about her son. Losing her brother was only half of what troubled her the most.

Han looked at her with sympathy. "There was nothing we could've done," He paused, trying to get himself to say the next part. "There was too much Vader in him."

"That's why I wanted him to train with Luke. I just never should have sent him away," She apologised. "That's when I lost him. That's when I lost you both."

"We both had to deal with it in our own way. I went back to the only thing I was ever good at," Han said.

"We both did," Leia finished.

"We lost our son, forever," Han said, reminiscing in his fond memories of his son, before what was happening now was even an option.

"No," She got Han's attention. She tried to think, create a reason why it wasn't their fault, because that's what they thought. They blamed it on themselves for not being there. "It was Snoke," Leia finally says. The idea popped into her head and made her realize that maybe it wasn't fully their fault. "He seduced our son to the dark side. But we can still save him," She continued the thought. "Me. You," She said. She looked behind Han to where her niece used to be. Padme, she thought, but she didn't want her to get roped into it.

"If Luke couldn't reach him, how could I? Han asked her.

"Luke is a Jedi, you're his father. There's still light in him. I know it," Leia promised.

They both looked back to see Padme nowhere to be seen.

After seconds of silence, Leia spoke up again. "There's just as much Vader in her, maybe even more. We need to make sure she stays with us. We need to be there for her, or she'll -"

"I know," Han interrupted her.

They both feared what Padme could become, after what her cousin had become, but they couldn't let her turn like they had let him.

They thought they could save their son from the darkside and keep Padme in the light.
