The ballroom is filled with people, the music from the orchestra mixing with the chats of the attenders. I look around me, trying to find where exactly my boyfriend is; I am sure he is somewhere, chatting with one of the older members of the royal family, and praying on the inside that someone will appear soon to get him out of there.
The fabric of my ballgown rattles a little as I walk further in the room, nodding politely to the people who are greeting me.
Then I see him, wearing his blue formal and chatting with an elder. I approach them, smiling at the man before I tap Calum's shoulder.
"You are here." He gasps, looking up and down at me.
"I am." I reply, letting him take my hand in his and bring it to his lips.
"Would you excuse me for a while? My betrothed, you see..." He chuckles softly at the man who nods and bows at us.

"You didn't have to stop talking with the man... I could have waited until the conversation was over." I comment as Calum guides us away.
"Are you kidding me? I was dying for an out. And I got the best one there is." He leans to my ear, pressing a kiss on the top of my head.
"Where are we going, my prince?" I ask him as the guards move from the door and let us out.
"I have something special for you, princess. Far, far more interesting than this ball." He replies, running his thumb over the back of my hand.
"But... Your mother... It's her birthday ball. Shouldn't you be there? Shouldn't I be there?" I ask and he shakes his head.
"We have her blessings." He replies, guiding us out.

We walk for a bit, only to end up in a place where not a soul is present but us.
"My mother... She has a special love for this place... So, she doesn't regularly let people in... But, you are family, and this is the only place I want to be right now, and you are the only person I want to be with right now." He states, opening the small gate in front of us.
"Are you taking me to your mother's garden?" I ask him, looking at him shocked.
"I know you are leaving for your royal tour in a few days, I wanted to do something special for us." He replies, planting a kiss on my knuckles.
"Oh, Calum... This is the sweetest thing. I am not dressed for it, though. My dress will get all muddy." I reply and he sighs a little frustrated, scratching the back of his neck.
"It's all worth it." I state, opening the little gate and stepping ahead.

Calum takes my hand in his, following right behind me.
"Most of my memories from this place are of me kicking a ball around and my mom scolding me about the roses being mangled." He comments, touching one of the flowers as we walk by.
"Well, weren't you a little rascal back then?" I giggle, bringing my free hand to his forearm before I lean closer to him.
"Well, not all of us were the goody-two-shoes angel of a child..." He replies, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead.
"Sometimes I wonder how we ever came to be..." I add and he hums in question.
"Is that a complaint?" He asks me, stepping in front of me, looking at me while he holds both my hands in his.
"No, just an observation. I wouldn't change you for anyone in the world." I hearten him, taking a small step forward to hug him. He places his hand behind my head, keeping it to his chest while his other one stays on my waist.
"Anyone?" He asks, resting his chin on top of my head.
"Anyone." I reply, closing my eyes to take in the moment.

"You know, I haven't been able to think of a moment I wasn't in love with you. At every ball, I was looking forward to you stepping into the room. At every visit, I was asking my mother if you'd be there, if they were bringing you along. And every time I was getting so excited I couldn't even sleep at night. I think I was always in love with you, ever since we were kids." Calum states, his voice sounding a little groggy from whispering.
"You know I have already accepted your proposal, right? No need to romance me more..." I reply, tilting my head back to look at him. His hand goes to the back of my head, holding it steady before he leans down to kiss me.
His lips move slowly against mine, while his hands hold me close. It is nearly magical, with the night breeze hitting my skin, and the aroma of the flowers mixing with Calum's cologne.
I just want to stay here, away from everything, away from everyone.
"Have I ever told you are a great kisser?" He asks me, stroking my cheek. I giggle and feel my cheeks heat up, while I bury my face into his neck.
"Maybe once or twice..." I reply, making him hum.

"When are you coming back from your tour?" He asks me; he sounds a little sad, as if I am going to be gone for months.
"I am leaving in 5 days and I am going to be gone for 10 days." I reply, bringing my hand to squish his cheeks.
"Good. Once you're back, we should start planning for the wedding. All I am asked about is when I am going to marry my betrothed." He states, making my hum in agreement.
"We should... I wish you could come with me. It would be dreamy." I sigh and pout, causing him to coo at me.
"Well, this is your last solo tour, I promise." He crosses his hand over his heart, giving me a charming smile.
"If you say so..." I giggle, reaching up to kiss the tip of his nose.

"I don't want this night to end." Calum whines as we walk towards the gate, where my chauffeur is going to pick me up.
"Well, it has to. All nice things must come to an end." I state, leaning my head against his shoulder.
"Wish you could stay."
"Wish I could too." I whisper, just as the car stops in front of the gate.
"Goodnight, love. I will see you in my dreams." He sighs, bringing the back of my hand to his lips.
"Goodnight, my love..." I giggle softly before I lean up and peck his lips.
