--Michael's hands rest on the steering wheel, carefully driving us towards the cottage Ashton has rented for the weekend. First chance Micheal could get in having his friends in the same place and he decided to call me over, finding the opportunity to introduce me to his close friends and their girlfriends.
I have been dreading this moment, knowing how much their approval means to Michael. He loves his friends and they have been around way longer than me, so I know that I am the disposable one, in case they don't like me.
And of course, I have to worry about getting along with the girlfriends, who seem to have formed some sort of clique, or at least that's what's apparent on their profiles. I checked them out, trying to get an insight into the group.
They all look like fucking models, and I am pretty sure one of them is one; those type of girls were always mean to me, the stereotypical skinny mean girls always looking down on me for the way I look. Growing up thicker than most, made me kind of an easy target, which only caused me to develop ways to defend myself. And that's something I don't want to have to do this weekend."Enjoying the view?" Michael asks, catching me off guard. I turn my head to look at him, smiling softly at the man.
"Kinda. It is beautiful out here." I reply, leaning my head against the back of my seat.
"Isn't it? Ashton discovered the place during one of his short trips with Kaitlin. He thought it would be the perfect place to 'detox from society' or something like that." Michael chuckles.
"Sounds like typical Ashton. Holistic as shit." I giggle and he hums.
"Anyway, we are supposed to spend the weekend rid off the technology, so he will ask you to turn off your phone..." He sounds apologetic.
"It is fine. I have told my friends I would be off this weekend either way."
"I am sorry this is too extra. I didn't want to have rules and such while you are meeting my friends but..."
"Mikey, it is fine. You don't need to apologize. I am glad I get to meet your friends and I am thankful for spending a weekend in nature." I say softly, reaching to stroke his cheek.
"You are a literal angel, have I told you that?"
"Once or twice, maybe..."
"And you look so cute in that dress. I could stare at you all day long." He sighs happily.
"Are you flirting with me, Mr. Clifford?" I ask playfully.
"I always am, even when I am not. You bring it out of me with your cuteness.." He chuckles.
"You are making me blush..." I press my hand on my cheek, making Michael laugh.
"Cute. We are a few minutes away from the cottage, according to the GPS. If you want, you can go on Socials for a while before the detox..." He suggests and I shake my head no.
"I will be fine." I assure him, toying with the hem of my dress.I pick up my weekend bag and the boxes of pastries I bought as a gift. I practically made poor Michael drive me around Los Angeles to pick everyone's favorite; I am such a kiss-ass.
Michael offers to take my bag but I decline, already pitting him for driving that many hours.
Ashton is sitting at the porch of the cottage, having a cup of something and smiling warmly at us as he sees us approaching the house.
"Hi there. Welcome... You must be the glorious (Y/N)... It is so nice to finally meet you..." Ashton cheers as we reach him. He stands up, leaving his mug on the window edge behind him before he hugs me.
"Hi. It is so good to finally meet you too. I have heard so many great things about you. Thank you for inviting me." I say politely.
"Of course. Any friend of Michael is a friend of mine, even more so his own girlfriend." He assures me. I feel kinda weird, being called his girlfriend; who would have told 17-year-old me that in a couple of years I would be dating my man crush.
"We are the firsts here?" Michael asks.
"Yes, it's only me and Kay here. We came early in the morning to prep the house. And since you are the firsts here, you get to choose your bedroom. Kaitlin and I have occupied the one on the ground floor, and there are 2 bedrooms on the second floor and a spacious sitting room in the basement of the house, with a pull-up couch. That one is reserved for Calum, I am afraid." He explains.
"Sounds good for us. Let's go leave our stuff..." Michael states and I nod.
"Where should I leave these?" I ask, holding up the bag of boxed goods.
"Those are for us?" Ashton asks, a little surprised by what I assume is the number of boxes.
"I picked up a few pastries for the weekend. Nothing that needs refrigeration." I reply.
"Let me take those. Go leave your stuff and come join me and Kaitlin for coffee. Let's have some of those amazing pastries you brought." Ashton offers.
"Sounds good to me."
"Michael, I know your coffee preferences. (Y/N), what about yours?" He asks me.
"I would like some tea if you have any. I have trouble sleeping away from home and I wouldn't want to make things worse by having coffee this late." I explain and Ashton nods empathetically.
"We have green tea and a herbal mix. Which one do you prefer?" He asks me.
"Green tea is fine." I smile, handing the bag of pastry boxes to Ashton.
