Summary: Luke visits Singapore with his girlfriend, (Y/N), for her cousin's wedding. During the trip, he learns a lot about her life prior to meeting him.
Disclaimer: This story is a work of fiction based on the book series "Crazy Rich Asians" by Kevin Kwan. I do not own the characters or events from the books or the movie.
A little bit of background for the ones who have read the books or saw the movie; (Y/N) is a Leong. She is Astrid's youngest sister and the youngest of the cousins. I mostly based the story on the first book, but the story is easy to follow if you have only watched the movie, or if you have never heard of the series before.

--My doorbell rings, causing me to avert my gaze from the stove. A smile spreads on my face, knowing that behind the closed door, Luke is waiting to come in. I squeal excitedly; even after 2 years of dating, the thought of him makes me feel warm in my stomach.
"Hi..." I sing, opening the door to reveal the tall, blond man who is smiling brightly at me.
"Hi, bub. Can I come in?" He asks me, pointing inside my apartment.
"Of course, yes." I move from the door, allowing him to get inside.
"It smells amazing in here. What are you cooking?" He asks me while I walk back to the stove.
"I am making Laksa. I found shrimps in the market today, and I had some chicken in my fridge. And, there it is. Laksa. I need a few more minutes to finish it." I explain, making him hum.
"Laksa? What is it exactly?" He asks, leaning over my stove to take a look.
"Noodles in coconut milk curry broth with chicken and shrimp, mainly." I reply, earning a hum of approval from him.
"That sounds lovely. Can't wait to try it." He pecks on my temple softly, wrapping his arms around my waist.
"I haven't made it in a while, hope I still got it." I mumble.
"I am sure it will be amazing, bub. Just like you. I will go make the table." He offers, opening the drawer where I keep the placemats.
"You are such a sweetheart." I comment, turning my head to look at him.
"I know, I know." He replies."Where do you want me to put the box, baby?" Luke asks me, walking up to me, holding the luxurious box. I haven't gotten the chance to open it yet, but I know pretty much what is inside it.
"Can you leave it on the counter here? Let's see what's inside it..." I mumble while Luke follows my suggestion. I remove the bow and raise the lid, opening the fancy invitation box. I pick the card, reading it carefully.
"What is it? Secret admirer? Should I worry?" Luke asks playfully.
"My cousin Colin is getting married in 6 weeks." I reply, reaching up to press a kiss on his lips.
"That's the invitation?" He asks, pointing at the box.
"I know... Fancyyy..." I giggle, leaving the card back in the box.
"Are you going?" He asks me, leaning against the counter as I turn back to serving our dinner in its bowls.
"I can't be missing from the wedding, really." I reply, passing him the bowl.
"Is cousin Colin the one who lives in New York?" Luke asks, and I shake my head in ambiguity
"No, that is cousin Nicky. He is the best man at the wedding. Colin is in Singapore. You haven't met him."
"It's cute that he chose his cousin for his best man." Luke coos, running his fingers down the fancy invitation paper.
"Oh, Nick isn't Colin's cousin. Colin and I are related on his mother's side. His mom was my dad's sister, and she married Colin's dad. Nick and I are related on my mother's side. My mom is one of Nick's dad's sisters." I explain. I can see smoke coming out of his ears, his brain melting down.
"What do you mean by Colin's mom was your dad's sister? Do familial bonds change after marriage?" He asks.
"I mean, she passed away. She died when Colin was very young. I wasn't even born when she died, never met her." I explain, watching his expression change to a somberer one.
"I am an idiot. I shouldn't have asked..." He sighs.
"It is ok, love. You couldn't have known." I assure him.
"So, you are going to Singapore in 6 weeks..." Luke sighs, picking up the bowl to carry it to the table.
"Well, the wedding is taking place in Singapore, but there are many pre-wedding activities in other places. So, I will be going to Singapore in 5 weeks to help with preparation. There are some family events before the wedding, so I can't miss them. And after that, I am staying for a couple of weeks for vacation. I haven't gotten vacation days off the firm for a while, so I am technically obligated to take them." I explain, and he sighs.
"That long..." He mumbles, face dropping a little.
"I was wondering... Would you like to be my plus one to the wedding? You don't have to say yes, but I would love for you to come with me." I ask, handing him the other bowl.
"You want me to come with you to Singapore?" He asks me, making me nod my head while I try to study him for a reaction.
"You don't have to. But I figured it would be a nice way for you to meet my family and see my country." I explain, trying not to sound nervous. I have met his family, I have been to his hometown, and it is actually a good point in our relationship for him to do the same.
"I would love that. I can't wait to meet your family. You barely ever talk about them." He replies.
"You barely ever ask, to be fair." I state, and he hums.
"You have a good point. Are you sure you want me there?" He asks me again, and I nod happily.
"More than anything, to be honest. But if you are uncomfortable..." I begin, but Luke leans down and kisses me, stopping me from talking any further. He supports me by placing his arm behind my waist while I wrap my arms around his neck.
"I'll book my ticket tomorrow morning." He whispers, pressing his forehead against mine.
"I can book it for you."
"I will leave my credit card here, then..." He offers, but I shake my head no.
"No need to. I got this..." I assure him, placing a hand on his pec, grazing it softly.
"Are you sure about this?" He asks me, and I nod.
"It's my treat." I wink, making him raise his hands in defeat.
"Ok, then. Let's go have some of that amazing Laksa you made." He points at the table, where our dinner is already set.
"We are only missing cutlery, glasses, and drinks..." I remind him, pointing at the lone 2 bowls resting there.
"Right." He sighs, chuckling to himself as he realizes we are not eating yet.
