I jog towards the kitchen, where my roommate has already made fresh coffee. I will be late for work if I don't leave in the next two minutes, so speed is of essence.
"Good morning. Thanks for the coffee." I greet my roommate who leisurely enjoys her breakfast.
"I made omelet. Do you want some?" She asks, pointing at the platter. I grab my travel mug and pour myself some coffee, shaking my head to decline her offer.
"I will be late for rounds. But thanks. You are working the evening shift?" I ask her and she nods.
"Yes. I will go grocery shopping in a few hours. We pretty much have no food left, not in the pantry, nor the fridge." She comments, making me sigh in gratitude.
"Text me how much you spend so I can transfer you the money." I wave at her before rushing out of the house.

I make it to the hospital with no time to spare, before having to rush to the pit.
I barely had the time to change into the hospital's scrubs, before being paged for an emergency.
"What do we have?" I ask the paramedic as she rolls the patient through the entrance of the ER.
"Male in his 20s. Car accident, unknown if injury occurred." The lady says, parking the carrier in a free space in the ER.
"Ok, head CT, carbon monoxide measurement, lab workup, let's go." I order, rolling along with him toward the radiology department.
"Chicken tender?" The man asks, making me look at him strangely. Oh God, is he delusional from the accident?
"What?" I ask confused, making him raise a box of chicken tenders to my face.
"Would you like a chicken tender? They are still warm and nice." He suggests and I shake my head, unable to wrap my mind around that. Not delusional, just hungry, I guess.
"Sir, you were in a car accident. I don't think you should be eating right now." I sigh, trying to get him to leave the box down.
"Really, I am fine. The car got all the impact. I climbed out of the car and sat down, I am aware and oriented, isn't that the only thing that matters?" He asks and huff.
"Yes, but not quite. At least stop eating when we put you in the CT." I mumble, rolling my eyes as I turn away from him.

"Head CT is clear, no trauma in there." I announce, practically to myself as I take a look at the CT. No hematoma, no rupture, so no reason to look in the CT furthermore.
"Can I come out of this now?" The man asks; he has not been a pleasure, treating him. But clearly, I can't keep him in there longer as a form of punishment, that would be against the Hippocratic oath.
"Yeap. Back to the exam room." I speak onto the mic, letting the nurses help him out of the machinery and onto a gurney.
"Do I have to be rolled around in this? I can walk, I am fine." He protests, looking at me through the glass dividing us.
"Until I say you are fine, you are not fine, and that would cause liability issues. There are still test results expected to be reviewed. So, please, let's make this as painless as possible for both of us." I reply, walking out of the screening room.

"Hi. I got a call bout my friends. They were in a car accident... Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin..." I hear a man say as I stop at the front desk of the ER.
"Calum Hood? The chicken tender guy?" I ask and the man looks at me squinting in confusion.
"I am sorry, what?" He asks me, confusion written all over his face.
"I am the doctor taking care of him. He has a box of chicken tenders and he has been munching on them, refusing to let go of them." I explain and the man nods.
"Sounds about right, that's Cal... Is he alright?" He asks me.
"He is aware and oriented, which is the most important thing, I am waiting for the labs, but the CT came clear. Nothing to worry about, really." I reply and the man nods.
"What about my other friend? Ashton? Irwin?" He asks, after taking a sigh of relief for his friend.
"I don't know about him, but I can ask and send someone to inform you." I reply and the man tenses down, letting his shoulders drop.
"Thank you, Doctor... I am sorry, what is your name?" He asks me.
"Doctor (Y/N) (Y/L/N)." I smile, turning to the nurse to ask her about an update on the other friend.
