"... Well I know that we'd been hardly holding on, to tell the truth I can't believe we got this far..."

Seeing Amirah safely gladdened Muhammad more than he could imagine, he enveloped her in a hug that shocked them both.
He pulled back and held her by the shoulder, "I was so worried when I came home and didn't see you."
She looked different, sad. He watched her look around the compound before asking him, "have you been back home long?"
"No, no. I just got back. Where were you?"
He saw something akin to relief cross her features, "I just went out for a stroll and got lost."
He stared at her dubiously, "stroll? For how long?"
"Not long." She gave a small laugh, "didn't you just get back? I was out for two hours I think. What time did you get back?"
He was still in shock, it took him awhile to answer her question, "I think an hour ago or so."
"I just went out for a stroll." She repeated and walked into the house leaving him appalled.
Amirah had just blatantly lied to him? What had she been up to that required lying to him? And to think he'd been feeling guilty about Ummul Khair and was planning on telling her when she'd just lied to him. For how long has she been going out and coming home right before he gets back from work? When does she leave? Right after he does?
The unanswered questions piled up and swirled in his head. If not that he'd come home early he wouldn't have find out. Was she working? Was that were she goes? But what kind of work does one comes home past 11pm and then lie about their whereabout?
He didn't want to think Amirah was cheating but whatever game she was playing, two could play it. Definitely.

Amirah's fist hovered on the gate before she dropped them, she was scared and her stomach was in tight knots. This was it, Muhammad was definitely divorcing her and Baba will kill her.
She'd been out since and it was almost 11. So much had happened just from this morning till now, she'd made a mistake and she didn't know if she'd be able to get away from this one.
Sighing, she pushed open the gate and step into the compound... Whatever happens she'll take it, she was tired, she just wanted to sleep for a long while.
Muhammad shocked her by hugging her, she froze. Amirah had expected him to shout at her, ask her where she'd been, who was the man Abubakar had seen her with... Not hug her. He smelt of something, when he'd hug her, she caught whiff of a scent, a familiar one.
"I was so worried when I came home and didn't see you." He said looking relieved and she realized, she realized that he didn't know she'd been out since morning, that she'd been in a restaurant with a man and after that she'd gone home with him and they'd had sex. She almost cried in relief, she wasn't getting divorced, she was safe. Muhammad was safety.
But she had to be sure he didn't know, "have you been back home long?"
He shook his head, "no, no. I just got back. Where were you?"
She almost knelt down to thank her Lord.
"I just went out for a stroll and got lost." The lie slipped out easily.
