They finally got Hajiya to release Aunty amarya and Samir. Amirah was currently in her mother's bedroom.

"...and that was how Zarah brought Shittu, her supposed boyfriend to come and beat up Khadijah..."

"Which Shittu?" Her mother's expression changed to that of anger.

"Shittu that we all know." Amirah replied.

"Zarah has killed me!" Hajiya exclaimed before rushing out of the room and soon she heard shouting  coming from Zarah's room. Amirah fell ontop the bed, she was sure she'd been drained of all her energy today.

Amirah couldn't help the anger she felt towards Hamidah, although she could never openly express it for her elder sister was feared and highly respected. Hamidah hadn't even called to ask if they've resolved the issues in the house.

She hadn't always being like this. Sometimes Amirah pitied her, she recalled Hamidah used to be very beautiful until her scars, that was enough to turn anyone into a cold-hearted person.
Adnan was the one she hated the utterance of his name, maybe one day she might say why but for now, she'd buried everything concerning her elder brother. No one knows his whereabouts and she was glad Aunty Samha and her son weren't with him.

The next day, she was in the kitchen with the house help preparing dinner, that was all she had to do, things were still awkward between her and Khadijah who had moved to her mother's side of the house, Lawal had gone back to Zaria, Samir was locked up in his room while Fareedah was also locked up in her room reading for her exams. She had no idea where Na'eema was.

She sat down, the pot between her leg as she stirred the tuwo. She was engrossed in what she was doing until a loud noise interrupted her, she exchanged looks with the house help before going to the sitting room to check, she was really tired of this house and it's problems.

Maman Balele was seated comfortably, lightly tapping her walk stick on the tiled floor, everyone surrounded her. This was the first time the woman was visiting in perhaps three years.

She was old and her body shrunken yet when she spoke, her voice echoed, "Where is that mother of yours? Call Lolo for me!" She ordered Zarah who immediately stood up and ran upstairs.

Two of Amirah's cousins were seated on the floor engaged in a conversation with Samir who stood by the wall resting his back, they must have come with Maman Balele. The two girls, Ihsan and Habibah both liked Samir and were always looking for an opportunity to be in the house which was hard because both of their mothers didn't like Hajiya.

Maman Balele's attendant stood by the side quietly watching with a bored expression on her face.

"Ina wuni-good evening." Amirah greeted, falling to her knees in front of the old woman. Maman Balele stared at her with a sneer.

"Amirah, what are you doing here? Didn't you get married recently?" Maman Balele didn't like Hajiya nor her children with the exception of Hamidah, the woman loved her to pieces. Meanwhile, she hadn't attended Amirah's wedding, she'd claimed it fell on the same day as her eye surgery.

"There was an urgent matter I had to attend to." Amirah replied curtly.

"Where is Aliyu?" The woman didn't care, she called their parent by their individual names.

"Baba travelled." Fareedah said. Amirah settled herself on the floor beside Maman Balele, in their tradition, they dared not seat on a chair if an elder was.
