Love's not enough but God, how I wish it was.

The first thing Amirah felt when her eyes opened was the throbbing headache. It took awhile for her eyes to adjust to the light and when they did, she was confused about where she was and why she was where she was.
Muhammad was sleeping uncomfortably on the chair by her side, his lips were set in a grim line and he was frowning as if having an unhappy dream.
She stared at him as she tried to recollect her memory and when she did, she closed her eyes and sighed, Adnan had attacked again. Her hand went to her stomach and she caressed it, trying to feel for any indication that there was still any form of life growing in there.
"You're awake." Muhammad's said as if whispering, she turned to look at him with terrified eyes.
"How's the baby?"
He smiled at her, "fine." And Amirah felt herself exhale. She had mixed feelings about her pregnancy but that didn't mean she wanted anything bad to happen to her baby either, she was just few months gone but she already felt a bond growing between her and her child.
There was no other word exchanged between the both of them as she closed her eyes hoping to stall the questions for as long as possible. What'd saying the truth cause her at this point? Will Adnan tell Muhammad about Anisa, what had her brother conjure up in his sick, twisted mind? She was scared of him and she hated that fact.
"How're you feeling?" Muhammad asked, "any serious pains?"
She shook her head in reply but she felt the headache grow worse as she did, reminding her that she was lying yet again.
"Sit up so you can eat." He said and then she heard sounds, she turned back to him and saw he was bringing out a flask from a pink leather bag.
"I'm not hungry yet." She had no appetite, she'd rather go back to the state of unconsciousness rather than deal with anything or anyone now.
"Just a little."
Amirah watched him dish the rice into a smaller plate then he opened another flask that was filled with peppered chicken, the aroma wafted to her nose and she heard her stomach grumble, Muhammad looked up at her and gave her a small smile that increased her embarrassment.
He watched her eat the food slowly and neither said anything to the other, each lost in their own thoughts.
Muhammad didn't know how to broach the questions that had been plaguing his mind, although it wasn't the right time but he was understandably curious. Adnan was in the ER, he was still in a comatose stage and Muhammad hadn't cared to know if he'd survive or retained any serious injury.
After he'd fallen down, Hajiya had come running, shouting and crying as she held him in her arms. Amirah's sister had also ran out from the room, she'd stop to stare from him to Adnan before she ran down the stairs to her brother too. It was Lawal who'd driven Adnan to the hospital, which was ironically the same one Amirah was in.
Khadijah and Lawal had met with the female doctor who'd attended to Amirah and she'd finally allowed him to come see her and he'd been in the room ever since then. His parents and sister had brought food but they hadn't been allowed to enter the room yet so they'd stayed with him for awhile and then left.
"Is there water?" Amirah asked cutting his thoughts short.
"Yeah, yeah." He said as he brought out a bottled water and handed it to her, she drank straight from the bottle. He took away her plates and kept them aside before helping her lie back on the bed.
"Thank you." Amirah said to him, he simply nodded.
They stayed quiet for few more minutes and the silence was becoming unnerving.
