"...Can I take your pain and make it go away?
Would you let me be your getaway?..."

Amirah whimpered as she felt the sting of the methylated spirit on her back. Her mother was cleaning the wounds on her back with a cotton wool soaked in spirit.
Her mother had whipped her so much, she'd fainted.
"I'm doing this to protect you. You don't want to know what they'll do to you if they find out, nobody will believe you and they'll hurt you, they'll hurt you ten times worst than this.
This was painful right? Very painful but the society will do worst to you here, much more worse Amirah and I don't want that for you. Do you understand?"
Amirah couldn't speak, she'd lost her voice from screaming so loud. While her mother had whipped her mercilessly, everyone in the house had been at the door, banging and begging Hajiya to open it. Ya Lawal and Ya Samir had both tried to break down the door but they couldn't.
Amirah had series of blackouts, Hajiya never got tired if whipping her, she only stopped when she felt it was enough.
"I love you Amirah and he'll stop, don't worry. Just don't say a word about..."
Hajiya was still talking when Amirah slept off, that had been the beginning of the nightmares that refused to stop.
End of flashback...
Tara was stunned, she kept her head down so Amirah wouldn't see her tears. She'd heard far more worst case than this but at least they'd not been from someone this close to her patient. She'd been sexually abused by her brother and then physically abused by her mother.
"I'm so sorry you had to go through that."
"I can't continue today, may I leave this session please?" Amirah's expression was blank, her armour was back in place again. She was feeling ashamed of letting herself be so vulnerable.
Tara swallowed. "Yes, yes of course but before that, how long have you been experiencing panic attacks?"
"This is the second time."
Tara nodded before picking up her jotter, she scribbled on it, tore the page and handed it to Amirah.
"This is an antidepressant prescription to help you manage the attacks temporarily until your diagnosis is complete, you can get the drugs at the pharmacy downstairs."
Amirah collected it, thanked Tara and left the office. She got into the pharmacy, paid for the drugs before leaving in a taxi and headed back home.
As soon as she got into the house, she collapsed on the floor, curling herself as small as possible. She stared blankly at the wall opposite her.
She felt numb, it was as if her body didn't belong to her anymore. Her head was empty and she was weakened.
It was late afternoon when Amirah finally got back her energy, she stood up from the cold tiled floor and wobbled off to her bedroom. She removed her clothes and changed into a gown before climbing on her bed, covered herself with the blanket and let sleep overtake her.
"Hey Habibty, wake up." Muhammad said while shaking her gently, she opened her eyes and stared at him confusingly.
"Are you feeling ill?" He asked worriedly.
