If you turn a blind eye repeatedly, pray repeatedly you don't eventually go blind.

Amirah laughed harder as she saw the confused looks her sister's exchanged at her laughter. Tears ran down her face at how much she was laughing.

"Should we call the doctor?"

She heard Zarah asked and that intensified her laughter until it turned into coughing and Khadijah quickly forced a bottled water into her hands, Amirah opened it, took a sip from it and rested her back on the bed.

"Amirah are you okay?" Khadijah asked worriedly. Amirah nodded wiping her eyes.

"Why would ya Adnan hurt you this much? You were bleeding so much when we found you. What sort of argument would lead to that?" Zarah asked, her eyes squinting in disbelief. Khadijah turned to Amirah with a questioning look

Amirah shrugged. "He's always been violent, I should've expected it."

Khadijah frowned. "That's not it Amirah, there's something you're not telling." She looked to Zarah, "can you wait outside?"

As Zarah opened her mouth to protest, Amirah cut her. "I'm not hiding anything Dee, just let it be."

"No!" Khadijah yelled. "I've always let it be, when you limped and claim you fell, I let it be. When you went away for a semester, I let it be. When ya Adnan was in your bed shirt..."

Khadijah eyes widened and she fell to her knees, "he wasn't forcefully having sex with you, was he?"

Amirah rolled her eyes. "Why would you think that Dee." Her voice was shaky still.

"Ya Adnan is anything but a rapist, he might not be your brother doesn't mean you should trash talk him." Zarah chided.

"Shut up Zarah, you have no idea! Adnan was expelled from school because he raped a girl but your parents had covered it up well." Khadijah snapped.

Zarah could only stare unbelievably.

"Please tell me the truth Amirah. You forced me to stop sharing a room with you, what was going on? Please tell me and don't tell me to let it be again because I can't!" Her voice had grown louder at this point. A nurse opened the door and liked her head into the room.

"What's going on here?" She asked.

Amirah stared blankly at Khadijah, "please leave."

Her sister stared at her for a few seconds, shook her head and marched out of the room. Zarah followed closely behind.

Seventy three hours, forty six minutes and ten seconds ago, Muhammad had walked out of Amirah's hospital room. She knew this figure aptly because she'd keenly stared at the time, willing it to move faster to the moment he'd return.

The fact that he was yet to didn't faze her, she knew he would. His sister and mother had visited yesterday but Amirah was too tired for small talks, she'd been cold and aloof but they had said he was miserably sad about her injury and was refusing to come out of his room, which was why Amirah knew he would be back, he wouldn't stay away for long.

The most pleasant visit she'd gotten since then was from her mother, Hajiya was haggard and distortedly looking. She had tear streak on her face and she looked like she hadn't slept in awhile, it was good to see her mother this shaken but it also reminded Amirah how little her mother cared about her because the reason for her change was her brother's accident.
