•••• •••• •••• ••••Jide was the talkative one, Boma was shy and very smart, George was grumpy, Ladi was a flirt, Ife was Ladi's female version, beautiful and confident, Taiwo the awkward one who stared a lot, Elle the one who laughed too much and then there was Mike, the oldest, a family man who had been scowling at Amirah since she met them all; her team members who made up the architectural unit and she? Their boss.
Amirah was apprehensive, she was aware that she didn't have enough qualifications for her position and was probably too young for it but she was determined to put her best, the salary was also mouth watering.
Jide was willing to help her out and Ladi just kept throwing in dumb pickup lines.
She reclined on her seat and rubbed her eyes as she dropped the designs submitted for a new building being set up. She'd barely seen AbdulRahman, he'd only introduced her to her team before hurrying away.
She yawned and stretched, it was past 5pm and her co-workers were already leaving but she had a lot to cover, her phone rang and she smiled when Muhammad's name appeared.
"Hello." She answered tiredly.
"Assalamualaikum Habibty, how's your first day going?"
She didn't know why he'd started calling her Habibty but she did know it made her feel special.
"Stressful but okay still, I have helpful team members."
"That's good, when are you closing? I'd come pick you up." He offered.
"I don't know, maybe in two hours or three I should be back home but don't worry I'll take a taxi."
"Can you invite your friend to dinner, the one who got you the job? I and the girls are making something special."
Amirah was sure her heartbeat stopped for a second and she found herself at loss for what to say.
"Uhmm, I don't know, I think he'll be busy." She managed to say.
"Just ask him okay?"
She nodded, "okay."
"See you at home, bye Habibty."
She dropped her phone on the desk deciding she wouldn't dare invite AbdulRahman to her home again.
"Hey beautiful." She looked up to see AbdulRahman step into her office, she was already packing up her stuff, done for the day.
"Hello." She said before continuing with what she'd been doing.
"How was your day? I'm sorry I wasn't..."
"It's okay, my day was fine, thank you." She answered curtly, he only smirked at her.
"Why'd you stay so late?"
"I had a lot to do." She said putting her phone, the last of her things in her bag.
"How were your team members? Nice? Helpful? I did forget to mention that Mike had been hoping to get promoted to the position you are so he might not be at all welcoming." He sat on her desk swaying his legs.
"Oh." Amirah felt bad for Mike, "I now understand, well he didn't saw much, just kept frowning."
AbdulRahman laughed before holding her hand, "how did you enjoy your first day? Did you like it?"
Subtly she pulled her hand back, "it was stressful but I'm happy. Thanks for getting me the job."
He smiled at her and she couldn't deny how good looking he was.
