4:17pmI'm following Winston's car to the diner, I don't know if he knows it's me driving behind him. Another car behind me is speeding up faster and faster as if he's tracking me down. I move to the next lane and the speeding car behind me pulls up next to my lane.
ding ding
The gasoline symbol on my car us flashing red.
"Shit," I said to my self slamming my hand against the wheel. I turned my car to go on the route that led to the nearest gas station, I knew it was close so I sped up. I couldn't stop thinking about what would happen if Cj got there first. I picked up my phone again and checked the time 4:17pm. I opened up snapchat, keeping my eyes on the road. I went to the snap map to see if I could find Cj and Winston's location. I found Winston and zoomed in on his location, he was in the car, about 2 minutes away from the diner, and Cj right behind him. I grabbed the steering wheel tight in anger and placed my phone down on the seat next to me. I reached into the back of my car to see if I could find my wallet somewhere in the mess. I searched around looking for it under hats, bottles, wrappers, socks. There was no sign of my wallet. I got back into my seat properly and put my arm back on the armrest. I saw the bright lights of the 7/11 gas station near by. I reached into my back pocket really quick to see if it was there...and there it was. I remembered I had put it there before leaving the house. I pulled up to the gas station and quickly got out of the car. As I was walking to go fill my car up a dark colored man with a blue vest and hat came out of the store, "How much," I shrugged my shoulders and got back inside my car, "however much you think I need to get to the diner."
He slow jogged to me and chuckled to himself, "what are you doing at the diner?" he said looking at me and then back at the gas handle.
"Oh, I'm...just meeting someone," I said shaking mommy head and smiling.
He looked at me with curiosity, "A special someone?" he chuckled.
I looked around, "um...yeah I guess," I smiled at him.
"Oh teenagers," he laughed to himself, "I remember my teenage years, the best years of my life," He smiled at his shoes, "Her name was Evelyn, the love of my life, I'd do anything for the woman. We met in high school, it was 1975 if I remember correctly, She was standing by the wall outside the school smoking a cigarette by herself, she was only 16, and I was 17. She caught my attention right away, I decided to go and introduce myself by playing with her hair, and I guess she took it the wrong way and kicked me...you know where," he laughed to himself again, "anyways, she finally decided to talk to me and next thing you know we're married for almost 40 years," he stopped smiling, "were anyways, she passed away from breast cancer back in 2016, God rest her soul," he said making an imaginary cross with his fingers from his head to his chest and then shoulder to shoulder.
"I'm sorry to hear that," I say in a somber tone.
He shook his head, "Yeah, I mean...that's life," he chuckled,"anyways...that girl seems pretty special if you're filling up your gas tank just to see her at a diner,"
My smile gently faded away and I looked down at the wheel and nodded, "yeah... I guess so."
The man tapped the back of the car twice, "Your good to-"
"I-It's a boy actually," I hesitated.
He stopped and looked at me and then raised his eyebrows as if he was impressed.
"Well...boy, girl, who cares, go and gettem'" He tapped the car again, signaling to me that I was ready once again.
I put my car in drive and looked back at him and smiled as he smiled back and waved.
