"Hey Molly," I called, "Are they your family?"

We were sitting on the roof of the car in a shaded area with rows of giant trees blocking out the sun. The hot metal on top of the car still burned to the touch but I got used to it after leaving my body on it for long enough.

"Yeah, since I was 12, I told you," She explained.

Every movement I made I thought I could hear the bottle of pills shaking louder and louder. I kept looking at their faces to make sure they didn't notice.

"You know what," I said trying to get her attention, "I have that project at home and I haven't done like any work on it at all, could you just drop me off there for a little while so I can get some work done on it and we can hang out later tonight?"

She shrugged, "What? We just got here we were supposed to like go out and stuff!"

I sighed, "Yeah I know but like this is the final project of the year and I don't really wanna be late you know?" I said convincingly.

"C'mon," she said slapping the roof of the car, "You don't actually care about this shit do you?"

"Yes! Yes I do!" I demanded, "I do care about this shit because I care about my future which I'm sure is nothing you could relate to because your just a druggie!" I yelled at her.

Her smile quickly faded away, "Yeah?" she said quietly, "fuck you."

She stormed away to Elio.

I regretted what I said immediately, "I-I'm sorry that's not what I meant I'm just fucking tired of people telling me what to do and not listening to me-"

"No I know what you meant," She said almost at the verge of crying but holding it back.

I looked away awkwardly and squinted my eyes, I wish I could've taken back everything I said to her, and Elio, and Winston. I always speak without thinking first, I do that a lot. Always fucking up my relationship with people.

I hesitated before saying another word, "Do you..." I stopped myself and cleared my throat, "Can you drive me home?"

"I don't know," she turned around, "I don't think you want your parents seeing a druggie driving you home, do you?"

I closed my eyes in regret and jumped off of the car with my feet landing on the hard sandy dirt, "Um, I'm gonna go...home, I'll walk."

She didn't even acknowledge my presence and continued talking to Elio.

I could hear her from a distance, "Fuck, Winston said I told him I wanted Rafaela to hang out with me and CJ," She said distantly.

"What are you gonna say?" Elio questioned her in a low voice, I could feel his eyes on my back as I slowly walked away with my hands in my pocket.

"Well I can't tell her I can't-"

"No that's perfect!" Elio stopped her, "I can show you guys this hidden place like this lake I found a few weeks ago, We were supposed to go yesterday but then the party and everything."

"Love! okay," her voice slowly faded away.

I was dragging my feet on the ground and had picked up my pace. The sun was hot on my back and the bottle of pills rattled every step, I tried holding the bottle close to my side so no one would hear it eventhough I'm sure no one could hear it in the first place.

Suddenly, that familiar car I've seen before is coming straight at me, I move to the side as it feels like everything is slowing down like those scenes in movies. I can almost make out the two faces in the car as they zoom right past me, I'm sure it was quicker than I thought it was but in the moment it was a slow as time could be. Winston and Monty were eyeing me down in the car as they flew past me. I swear that me and Winston made eye contact until he was almost down the street. My head followed them until I couldn't see them anymore.

At that moment, when I saw Monty and Winston, Molly and Elio, and everyone else together laughing and playing, it was the loneliest I had ever felt in my life.
