Part Thirty-Nine

I walked alone down out of the big doors at the front of school. Everyone had their own group of friends but I never really had mine. We all left at the same time this morning from my house. Monty left by himself, the Molly left with Rafaela, CJ and Elio and then me, except I took the bus. I assume Molly dropped off CJ and Rafaela at school and then drove Elio back home, I wonder what his parents must've been thinking. Graduation was just four days away which felt closer now than ever if I think about it.

The sun warmed up one side of my body as I head towards the mob of kids waiting for the bus to come pick them up. As I came to a stop I caught a glance of two teenagers standing at the post confront of the school talking and laughing. I looked closer to make sure it was who I thought it was, Elio and Molly.

I can to realize the confused expression on my face and wiped it away immediately from my face as soon as I realized Molly was waving at me. Inside I almost died because the last thing I wanted to do was talk to Elio but I covered my demise with a forced grin. I dragged my feet across the ground to their direction.

"Hey! What are you doing here?" I smiled forcing a surprised time in my voice.

"I'm picking up CJ!" Molly smirked enthusiastically.

"I had to come with her, I wanted to see what I was missing out on at this school, even if I can't go inside," Elio inputed abruptly

I nodded my head, tucking my hands into my back pocket, "Actually Elio that reminds me, can I talk to you really quick?"

I saw all of the emotion leave his face, "yeah," he grinned at Molly and started to walk towards me.

I smiled and gestured for him to follow me to a tree a few meters away from Molly, the shade from the big tree cooled me just bit but the warmth of the sun was replaced by the swarm of mayflies. He was nervous, I could see it in his face.

"So, last night-"

"I didnt tell anyone, I promise Winston," he interrupted

I forced a smile and gulped, "It's not what you think, Elio, We were...drunk and It was really hot you know and th-there was nowhere for him to sleep," I stuttered as my mind tried to come up with reasonable excuses.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah!" Elio agreed shaking his head quickly, "I dont doubt you, I get it," he laughed, "It was really hot."

I squinted at him, "What were you doing coming into my room in the middle of the night anyways?"

He gulped, "Nothing, I was just looking for CJ and I heard you and Monty talking so I figured it was CJ 'cause I know you too are friends-"

"Who told you that?" I slouched relaxing my shoulders.

"He did, he said that you two have been friends since like forever. Uh- its my fault for assuming I should've knocked, he told me he was downstairs anyways I don't why I didn't just go there."

"Yeah," I mumbled, "why where you looking for Cj?" I questioned him, "are you two like..."

"Oh no," he chortled, "we just met I barely know him."

"Oh," I sighed with relief, "He's not...you know,"

"Gay?" Elio finished my sentence. He shook his head side to side and shrugged, "I dont know he didn't talk much about himself," he softly chuckled and walked away.

CJ was already there with Molly. Elio seemed to steer away from CJ and walked over next to Molly. They all got into Molly's car which was parked right there on the curbside and son drove off.

A pair of hands rested on my shoulders, "Hey."

I gasped, "Monty? Hey, sorry about last night I was kind of a dick."

He gave me a sincere smile, "No, it was my fault I was being defensive and scared...So ideas thinking I could maybe make it up to you?" He bit his lip playing with his fingers.

I smiled, "Well my parents aren't home until next week so I mean if you wanna come over?" I offered.

"I'd like that," he smiled almost kissing me but he would never do such thing in public.
