*chapter 30: You don't love her

After helping Ranger get into bed I left the room. Closing the door behind me, I saw everyone was looking at me.

"What?"

"It's just..... He's never talked to any of us like that." Ruby said, lowering her gaze.

"Like what exactly?" I ask.

"Ranger has been very cut off from the rest of us. He always tries to show that he's strong, that he doesn't feel anything." Ronan explained.

"But the way he spoke to you today..... He's never sounded so broken in five years." Rolland said.

At the corner of my eye, I saw James leaning against the wall. "Get me a file on this Amalia girl. I want to know everything about her. Who are parents are, where she lives, her social status. everything."

"What are you going to do?" James asked, pushing himself off the wall.

"And since when did you start questioning my authority?" I shot him a glare and he remains silent. I noticed my siblings eyes widen when they see my sudden outburst.

"Sorry." He whispered quietly.

"Get me the file by tomorrow morning. I'm going to my room." I said before leaving.

I locked the door behind me and slid against it, pulling my knees to my chest. The room was dark, I didn't bother to turn on the lights. I prefer the darkness anyway, it's quite comforting.

I pulled out a cigarette and lit it up before taking a long drag.

I don't remember the last time I had a full night rest. The highest I do is just close my eyes for an hour.

Dad once said I should sleep with one eye open.

But I don't sleep at all.

                 (Ruby's P. O. V)

"...... I'm going to my room." Roxy said before she stormed off to her room. That was quite rude. I turned to James who looked so down.

"Why do you let her talk to you like that?" I ask James making Rolland snort.

"Cause she's his boss. He has no right to say anything to her. Simple." Rolland says.

"But that's not right. Even if she is your boss, she should respect you." Ronan agrees with me.

"Exactly. So why?" I ask and he lowers his gaze to the floor. "James?" I ask and he sighs.

"That's because I..." He trails off and I narrow my eyes at him.

"Spit it out already." Rolland says impatiently.

"..... Love her." All three of us eyes widen and our jaws dropped.

"Ah hell NO!"

"No way."

"Awwwn..... Wait does she know?" I ask.

"I try giving her hints that I love her but she always says I'm annoying her. I once asked her if she would like to have a boyfriend someday."

"What did she say?" Ronan asked.

"She said she only has a heart for you guys and that no one is allowed to crawl their way into her heart. She's built thousands of walls inside her, she's so closed off that the she's not even that close to the people she loves, you guys. She also said she doesn't want to bring anyone else into the life she lives in." He says.

"But you're already in this life." Rolland said.

"Yeah, you guys have been trained in this life. you guys can totally be together." I say.
