I knocked gently on the door but there was no answer. I turned the door knob and stepped inside the dark room. All the curtains were down and the lights were off. There was absolutely no form of light, just darkness. Exactly how I like it.
"James?"
No answer. My hands wondered the wall beside the door, looking for the light switch. But I stopped my search when I heard a whisper.
"Don't turn it on."
I followed the sound of the voice and found a dark silhouette sitting at the edge of the bed. I sat down beside him as silence enveloped us.
I have absolutely no idea what I am doing here, my feet just brought me here after the confession he made downstairs. If I'm going to die tonight, I might as well set things straight. But how?
"I want you to be the one to follow me and go pick up Ranger and the rest. Your the only one I trust with such an important job."
Seriously! That's what you say!
He didn't answer me. He just stared at his feet, like it's the most interesting thing in the world. "Did you-"
"I heard you." He snapped.
Usually, I'd tell him off for speaking to me like that. I don't know why, I just feel like we're both in a vulnerable position.
"Love huh?" I blurt out. He still didn't say anything. "Cute nickname giver?" I smiled.
Even in the darkness I can see the bright smile on his face. His green eyes glinted with happiness. I can imagine how long he has been waiting for me to call him that.
I turned around in the bed and tilted my body, so now we are resting on each other's backs. The back of our heads are touching, as we stared into the darkness.
I don't know why, but I felt a bit mischievous now. I haven't felt this way in eighteen years, I felt all giddy all of a sudden. I used my index finger to poke his side. "Cute nickname giver.... come on...talk... talk.." I stopped when he grabbed my wrist and yanked me forward, tilting his body at the same time so my head landed on his thighs.
Shocked and confused at what just happened, I gazed up to his eyes. His eyes looked a shade darker, an unidentified emotion swimming in those mossy green eyes.
"You're so beautiful." He stated.
He started playing with my finger( which I forgot he still had). "Do you know how long I've waited for you to call me that." He whispered.
Usually, I'd slap him right across the face for being so intimate with me. But I'm enjoying the closeness between us. It's so.... comforting. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the feeling of tranquility.
"I thought I lost that cheery little girl I met years ago along with my best friend."
I looked up at him and found him staring at me intensely. "Do you miss him? Ricky?"
"More than anything," he admitted with a sigh. "He was my best friend, the only friend I had at the time. We grew up together, trained together, play together, admit our secret crushes on hot models on the internet." He admitted.
A very strange sound filled the room, a very unusual sound. No one has heard that sound in eighteen years. Not a lot of people have heard that sound. Most people have tried making that sound to come out but failed. But James did.
James made me laugh.
I was actually laughing.
