chapter 53: Video calling

Puff.

This is my seventh cigarette since we came to the conclusion that Ranger was kidnapped by the devil himself.

Suddenly the cigarette was snatched from my fingers. I looked up and saw James looking at me with a scowl on his face.

"A cigarette isn't used for breathing. Like seriously you haven't been breathing for the past two hours!"

I blinked at him for a while before pulling out another cigarette from my pocket and lighting. James sighed and shook his head in defeat.

We're all in the living room. James, The twins, Ruby and Ximena have been watching me pace the living room for the past two hours, waiting for me to come up with a plan to get Ranger back.

We have no means of tracking or communicating with Fernando. We tried tracking Amalia, Ryan and Ranger's phones, but nothing.

Nothing.

And that's when the dam was broken. My tears flowed freely down my cheeks. I fell on my knees, covering my face with my hands as I sobbed.

I felt the rest rush to my sides as someone held my shoulders. I looked up and saw Ruby with tears in her eyes.

"I'm sorry. I'm a failure!" I sobbed and she shook her head.

"Roxy, it's not-"

"Yes it is my fault! What's the point of being the most powerful woman in the world, if I can't even protect our little brother!"

Rolland crouched down beside me. "I'm sure he is fine. Please-"

"He's not fine! He's with a psychopath! The devil himself that killed our parents and brother! Lord knows-" I was interrupted by the vibration in my pocket.

I wiped my tears away and pulled out my phone. My eyes bulged out of their sockets at the caller ID.

"It's Ranger! He's video calling!" I happily said.

James walked up to me and snatched my phone away. "Hey! Give it back!" I said rising to my feet.

"Do you really think Ranger is the one calling you? It's Fernando, we can track down his location with this call." He said attaching a wire to my phone, which connected to his laptop.

He attached another wire to the TV. "This is so that we can all see him. I'm going to stay at a corner so he doesn't see I'm tracking him. You guys should try to keep talking to him for at least three minutes, so I can get his location." He says and we all nod.

Ximena walks up to me and stands at my side. "D-do you think, h-he has my mom with him?" She asks and my heart squeezed.

I totally forgot the bastard kidnapped Ximena's mom. All this stuff about the companies attack and now Ranger, Ryan and Amalia's kidnapping hasn't really given me the chance to think about her mom.

"Let's hope so." I said and anger flashed in her eyes as she faced the TV screen. Ruby stands at my other side, as the twins stood beside her. We're all facing the screen, ready to negotiate with the devil himself.

"Ready? " James asks and we all nod.

The blank screen was replaced by Ranger's crying form. He was tied to a chair under a small bulb in a dark room, his eyes were swollen and red from crying. He wasn't blindfolded but he refused to open his eyes.
