Thirty-Seven

"Can I at least see her?" Jia asked Bea's surgeon.

"Sure thing. Iwan ko na kayo." He left.

"Go." Ate Ly said. "Sunod na kami."

Jia nodded and left.

"I'll come with her ate." Ced said and she left the room.

She jogged so she can catch up with Jia. She saw that the latter was shaking.

"Hey."

"Ced." Jia acknowledged her before twisting the knob open. 

They peaked on the room first before really stepping inside. There was nurse attending her and was just finishing up. Jia slowly walked to her unconscious girlfriend. There were machines attached to her.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

Her heart rate was normal and she was breathing but the fact that she was there lying made Jia broke down and cried.

"Hey." Ced was fast on her reflex and caught Jia before she could drop to the ground.

"Bea." She said, almost a whisper between her cry.

"Shush. She's alright. She's a fighter."

After sometime, Jia stopped crying. Ced was on the couch sitting and looking at her boss. She remembered the last time that she and Bea were on a hospital, was when she drank all night and had severe stomachache. But now, she's fighting for her life.

There was a knock on the door and it was the Avengers. Jia sniffled and wiped her tears before facing them.

"Hey." Ate Ly said. Jia just smiled and hugged them.

We were gathered near Bea when a nurse went in to check with her. Since she was still knocked off, all she did was to check Bea's dextrose and the machines attached to her.

"She will wake up tonight." Jia nodded and the nurse left.

When the Avengers left, Ced offered if Jia wants to sleep. "No Ced, I'm okay. I want her to see me first when she wakes up." She said.

Ced nodded and slept on the couch. Hours later, she fell asleep too. When she woke up it is already 5am. She panicked that Bea already woke up but to her disappointment, she's still sleeping.

She looked at Ced who was still sleeping soundly on the couch.

Jia held Bea's hand and caress it using her thumb.

"Hon. Ced said you are a fighter, and I know that." Tears started to fall. "Naalala mo ba yung sinabi mo nung binenta ko yung condo ko kay Deanna? Naalala mo lahat ng firsts natin dun. Pero ako hindi ko inalala yun, kasi ang mahalaga yung last natin. Hindi pa naman eto yung last natin diba? D-Diba? Sabi ng doctor stable ka na. Pero baket hindi ka pa nagigising?" Tears were uncontrollable now. "Yes. We will make your other room, a nursery for our first daughter. Yes Hon, her. I want our first to be a she, too." She sniffled. "Please wake up Bea. You're making me nervous."

"Sabi ko diba wag kang iiyak kasi papangit ka" Bea whispered.

"Bea!!" Jia shouted that made Ced woke up panic and fell down on the couch.

"Be... Ouch!" She exclaimed.

"Clumsy." Bea whispered. Ced ran towards her. "Ilan nahuli mong isda?" She smiled after saying that weakly.

"Zero, kasi walang isda dito." Ced rolled her eyes.

"Jia." Bea called her. "Can you ask the nurse if I can eat anything? I'm starving and I crave milk tea." Jia smiled and nodded at Bea. She stood up and walked towards the nurses station.
