Magnus sat there most of the afternoon with Max in his arms. He fed and changed him again not long ago and was once again looking for houses. The moment bittersweet as he now searched for the house he wanted that seemed like Alec wouldn't be moving in to now. He sighed sadly as he found a house he liked and rang the estate agents to go and see the house tomorrow since he didn't want to waste any more time at Maryse's. He was sure she wouldn't want her son's ex living there especially with a baby. His heart hurts after the conversation that he and Maryse had that morning, how happy he was only a few hours ago and now he felt like he had nothing except the tiny baby in his arms.

He was now looking through amazon as he searched for furniture of Max. He knew the basics of what he would need but when he read through online websites he was shocked by how much he needed and by the time he heard the front door open, his amazon basket was at a total of over five thousand dollars. He looked up when Maryse walked in happily and sighed.

"Let me have a cuddle" She beamed happily and took Max from him. "Oh, he is beautiful. Where is Alec?"

"He hasn't told you?" Magnus asked as he checked out the basket and stood up.

"No?" She frowned, confused as she looked at him to explain.

"He... We broke up" Magnus choked out. "I'm looking for somewhere to live and I have an appointment tomorrow. He's staying at Jace's but I know you won't want me here so I'll be moving into my old apartment tomorrow until I can find us a house"

"Magnus. Magnus stop" Maryse stopped him. "You broke up? Why? I could tell Alec was grumpier than usual but I didn't think this would happen"

"He doesn't want kids. He is adamant he doesn't want kids or a family and that he just wants it to be us. Now Max is here..."

"Max? What has Max got to do with it?" Maryse frowned and looked at her son who was looking equally confused especially when Magnus smiled slightly.

"No, the baby is called Max too. I thought it was some sort of sign like he was meant to come to us but Alec doesn't see it like that. He basically gave me a choice of him or the baby. I'm sorry Maryse but I choose Max. I want both, of course, I want both, but how can I turn my back on my son? After the way my father treated me, I just can't be that person. I thought Alec would understand that because of Robert but I guess he went the opposite way to me. He doesn't want kids" Magnus sighed sadly.

"He's an idiot then" Maryse stated simply and received a shocked look from Magnus. He wasn't expecting that from her. "Of course you choose your kids. Although, right now I'm not choosing my kid as I'm on your side. He was stupid to put you in that situation. It is common for people to want kids and especially when you have your own child in your arms it does something to you, to your heart. I'd be horrified if you gave Max back to social services"

"Thank you but you don't need to say all that. I know you're probably annoyed at me for letting him leave. I should have been the one to leave" Magnus said and looked down.

"Absolutely not. You have a child, he has his brother and sisters places. You are welcome to stay here as long as you need. Although, I am sure he will stop being such a fool soon and come back apologising to you" Maryse said and then smiled as Max cooed at her. "Plus you are just so precious, yes you are. Such a beautiful baby"

"Maryse, thank you so much. For everything" Magnus smiled and then chuckled. "He is, isn't he? I can't believe how much I love him. Alec didn't even look at him. Just shouted at me and left"

"Alec is hot-headed. He acts first and thinks later. He will probably be back tonight, however, he is also stubborn so maybe tomorrow night" She smiled. "I have my Max's old stuff in my attic. You're welcome to go up there and find some stuff. There are baby clothes, and a Moses basket as well. Also, I'm sure there are diapers up there too."

"That would be great, thank you. I have most of it ordered but I need stuff for tonight" Magnus smiled and looked down at his Max. "Do you really think Alec will come back?"

"He loves you more than anything. I'm sure he will be back" Maryse smiled and put her arm around Magnus.

"I hope so. I really do need him" Magnus sighed. "Thank you, Maryse"

"Oh I know but if you don't stop thanking me, the next time this one does a dirty diaper, I will throw it at you" She chuckled. "Go and look in the attic"

"Th... Okay, are you okay with him?" Magnus chuckled.

"I have had three this age. I will be fine" She smiled and then looked at baby Max before she started talking to him. "Nana has got you hasn't she. Yes, she has..."

Magnus smiled when he heard Maryse call herself Nana and then sighed as he went upstairs to the attic. He searched through the piles of boxes and found a bunch of stuff he could use when he heard the front door open. He jumped up as he hoped that Alec had come back and rushed down the stairs with a box, the basket for the Moses basket swung from his hand as he reached the bottom of the stairs. He sighed when he saw Jace there but stopped and listened. Jace hadn't noticed him but Magnus could hear the conversation between him and Maryse.

"How can you be okay with Magnus staying here? I get he has a kid and I am not siding with Alec here but your son is heartbroken and you're sitting here taking his ex side" Jace frowned

"I am not taking anyone's side but Magnus has a kid. Have you actually heard Magnus's side?" Maryse asked.

"Have you heard Alec's side?" Jace retorted back. "Maryse, you can't let Magnus stay here"

"You do not get to come into my house and tell me who I can and can't have here"

"Fine. You shouldn't have Magnus here. He has other places he can go to. I have nothing against Magnus. I really don't. He didn't plan for a baby and didn't know but he has other options. He has a shitload of money and he has his own friends. Alec doesn't really have any friends and what about his issues? Do you remember when he broke up from Craig? When he spiralled down. When the drinking and the drugs started up again? Do you seriously think that he is going to cope better this time? He was going to marry Magnus" Jace sighed.

Magnus tried to keep quiet but when he heard Jace's last words he choked out and dropped the box as he fell onto the bottom step and sobbed. He hadn't thought about that. Alec had told him briefly but he never delved deeper into the subject since Alec didn't want to talk about it much. Now Magnus felt awful and scared and looked up when Jace came out to him.

"I'm sorry" Magnus whimpered out.

"Look, I'm not mad at you or trying to make you feel bad but Alec is going to need his family since you two are over. He's going to need his mom and you being here isn't going to make it any better for him. I really do like you, you're a great guy and I feel for you but Alec is my brother and I need to fight his corner" Jace said. Magnus could hear the sadness in his voice which didn't help.

"I know. You're right. I am going to move out tomorrow. I... I will go back to my old apartment tomorrow. He can come back here, I just need until tomorrow" Magnus croaked out.

"Thank you. I really wish you the best and I... I am so sorry but I don't think you should continue with the band" Jace said and bit his lip.

"I understand. You won't have to worry about me turning up for practices. I hope you find someone else" Magnus nodded.

"I am sorry. See you" Jace said and turned around before he stopped and turned back. He surprised Magnus by giving him a quick hug "Good luck with your son"

Magnus didn't know what to say and just nodded again before he looked down as Jace left. He heard Maryse walk into the hallway and sigh before Magnus looked at her.

"He is right. I will pack my stuff tonight and I'll be gone by tomorrow. I appreciate everything you've done but you need to be there for your son and I need to focus on mine" Magnus said and stood up. He packed up the box of stuff and left it in the corner of the hallway before taking Max from her.

"Magnus I..."

"It's fine" Magnus interrupted her and smiled sadly. "I know you want to help but Alec needs you"

Magnus didn't say anything else as he picked up the Moses basket and headed upstairs to his room. He was going to put Max in there and pack up his stuff but when he entered the room and had Max in the Moses basket on the floor, he sat down next to him and broke down into sobs.
