It was a long night for Magnus. He had to accept Maryse's help at one point to help settle Baby Max down. When the sun started to rise, Magnus was still awake as he watched Max sleeping. He was so worried about something happening if he fell asleep that he just couldn't relax enough to sleep. His mind also on Alec and hoped he was okay. He had texted him after hearing Maryse on the phone after Jace rang her to tell her that Alec wasn't at his. Since then, he had been worried about him and Alec not replying to his texts wasn't helping.

He got up when he heard Max groan and picked him up out of the basket. He cuddled him close and kissed his head. When Max cuddled into him, he smiled widely. His heart full of love already for his son as he stroked his cheek.

"I love you, Max. We are going to sort this aren't we? Yes. We will get Alec back and we will be a family" Magnus smiled and sighed as he took his phone out and texted Alec.

Magnus: Alexander, please reply to me. I am worried. You wasn't at Jace's last night and I don't know where you are. I just need to know you're okay. I know you don't want to talk to me or be with me but I just need to know you're okay.

He looked at his phone and sighed when he saw it was read but he received no reply. The only reassurance was that if Alec was reading his texts, he was at least alive.

Magnus got up and laid Max on the bed before going to pick out some clothes and started to dress his son before getting dressed himself. Once both of them were dressed, Magnus packed up their stuff and strapped Max into a car seat that Maryse had given him before he put the bags over his shoulder, held the car seat handle and went downstairs. He went into the kitchen and found a piece of paper to write a note to Maryse.

'Maryse. Thank you for everything. I have left now but I will return all of Max's stuff that I borrowed when I get my stuff through. Most is being delivered today to my old apartment. Send me your details for your bank account so I can give you the money I borrowed too, please. I didn't want to text you and risk waking you. Thank you again. Magnus'

Magnus sighed at the note before he pulled out his phone and called for a cab and then left after he put his door key on the table by the door and then waited outside. The cab didn't take too long which Magnus was grateful for and strapped Max's car seat into the seat before he climbed in and headed to his old apartment.

When they got to the place, Magnus saw the piles of boxes in the lobby and looked at the lobby receptionist who looked at him shocked. He knew it was from the baby in his arms and also because he had moved out but he still felt like he should explain.

"Hi Wendy" He smiled.

"Mr Bane. What are you doing back?" She smiled back.

"I'll be moving back in for a few days. Do you have the spare keys still?" He asked her.

"Of course" She said and unlocked the key safe below the desk and produced the spare key. "Who is this little guy?"

"This is Max. My son" Magnus said and looked at his sleeping son with a smile.

"Oh he is adorable, but how? I didn't know you was going to have a kid"

"It's a long story" Magnus sighed and glad when Wendy nodded and didn't say anything. "Those boxes mine?"

"Yes Mr Bane" She smiled.

"Can you have Eric bring them up please?" Magnus asked. He knew the handy man wouldn't mind since Magnus would tip him.

"Definitely. He should be back in a second. He's empty the trash chute as it got blocked" She said and rolled her eyes.

"Always the same" Magnus chuckled. "Tell Eric that I will leave the door open"

"No problem Mr Bane. Oh and its good to have you back" She smiled sweetly.

"Thank you Wendy" Magnus smiled back before he headed to the elevator and up to his apartment.

The moment he stepped through the door Magnus felt uncomfortable. Nothing felt right. He sighed at the furniture, the same furniture he used when he lived here although he knew the bedroom was empty. He sighed as he put the car seat down on the floor along with the bags and slumped into the couch before he crossed his legs.

He thought when he met Alec he would never have to return to this place. That he would be with Alec forever, however now that he sat and looked around the white walls and dark carpet, he was sure that Alec wouldn't return to him. He looked at Max sadly and sighed. He would never wish for a world without his son now, but he did wish for a world where Alec was with him and Max.

Magnus almost cried again when he heard a shuffle outside the door and a small knock and saw Eric at the door as he carried in some of the boxes. He got up and went over to help the older man and smiled.

"Thank you" Magnus said.

"Thats okay, Sir" Eric smiled. "I'll grab the other boxes"

"Just leave them there for me please" Magnus smiled and took out his wallet and gave him some money. "I appreciate you"

"Not a problem, Sir. And Thank you for this" Eric beamed and went out to the get the other boxes.

Magnus went back to couch and smiled at Max who had woken up. The baby looked around the room before he looked at Magnus and cooed at him so Magnus bent down and picked him up. He was about to talk to him when his phone rang. He sighed when he saw the name on the screen and answered it.

"Hello" Magnus said.

"Hello Magnus" Clary's voice came through and made Magnus frown since it was Jace's name.

"Is everything okay?" He asked as he noticed the tone of her voice.

"Jace's not happy with me telling you this but I felt like you deserved to know. Alec was in the hospital"

"What? Why? What happened?" Magnus asked panicked.

"Drug overdose" Clary said and started to cry. Magnus felt like his world stopped as he heard those words and swallowed.

"Is he okay?" Magnus asked unsure on what else to say.

"We don't know. Maryse got the call from the hospital to ask if he was there but no one has any idea on where he is. I just want to know if you have heard from him?" Clary asked concerned.

"No. No, I haven't. Clary I am... I'm so sorry. This is my fault. Is there anything I can do?"

"Not really but if you hear from him, can you let someone know?"

"Of course" Magnus sighed.

"How's the baby?" She asked.

"He is good. However, you don't have to make small talk. I appreciate you telling me and I will let you know if I hear anything for Alec but you don't have to worry about talking to me" Magnus said sadly.

"I want to-" Clary stopped and Magnus could hear Jace's voice in the background. "Sorry Magnus, I have to go"

"It's fine. Bye Clarissa"

"Bye Magnus"

Magnus couldn't hold back. He sobbed out and put his phone down. Glad that Eric had now gone as he cuddled his son close as he cried harder. He was worried about Alec, he missed his friends and now he felt more alone then ever as he sat in his huge apartment.
