It was hard being a teenager.

It felt like you were alone in the world sometimes.

That despite having good parents or a good conscious you could fuck up; after all, you lead your own life.

Yes, you could have a good home or a good life but even those people messed up and led them to being in circumstances that weren't pleasant.

Mattia didn't mean to end up in gang.

A shagged breath left Mattia. The palms of his hands were pressed into his eyes as he gritted his teeth in pain. Tears pricked at the corner of his eyes as he laid his head against the back of the alley wall.

He hated life sometimes.

He also missed his life before it went to shit.

Mattia remembered the summer heat and clear skies. He remembered laughing and joking with his friends. He remembered his family being happy.

Then, as soon as summer ended, everything fell apart.

His parents financially struggled, they stopped caring what he did, they never paid attention anymore. They barely cared for his younger brother, so, he was alone. It feels just like yesterday when his world went quiet—no—cold.

Mattia knew he wasn't the only one that summer where everything went to shit. His best friends stopped smiling unless they were with each other but even then it was strained.

They struggled being at home for their own reason but he knew; he knew that Kairi hated being home when his Dad was there or how Alejandro never spoke when he was at home because every word he said was used against him.

They were vulnerable to everything and it was an opportunity for monsters.

He remembers uttering, "Yes.", to the crossroad demons.

How he felt dazed when words were being spoken to him.

How the feeling of rough hands shaking his youthful ones would be engrained into his skin.
Something he wouldn't be able to scrub the feeling away from. How Kairi and Ale tried talking him out of it but how he managed to coax them into it.

Yes.

He had said it and it sealed the deal with misery.

All Mattia felt was pain but he could barely remember how it played out; he knew they punched, they kicked, they hurt him. He remembers the feeling.

Everything hurt. He couldn't breathe.
They never stopped kicking.

He remembers being left alone after that because they had another kid to jump in. He remembers careful hands helping him up and how he was treated gently. He remembers doing the same to his two best friends.

A gang.

He was in a gang.

He fucked up. He didn't want to be apart of something that was idolized but he was.
