Mattia had woken up to the darkness of his room. He emitted a low groan as soon as the pain kicked in from the night before.
His head throbbed, his throat felt sore, his stomach ached from puking to the point of nothing. He barely could keep his eyes open even in the darkness of his room.

The heat next to him reminded him of yesterday—just barely. Embarrassment leaked through his body as he remembered his mistake.

The body next to him didn't necessarily help his shame either. He had to be taken care of by Kairi the one person he wanted to be mature around; he didn't want to be seen as a child.

A petulant child.

Kairi was snoozing next to him and Mattia failed to resist snuggling into Kairi's side who easily slung his arm around Mattia's waist and pulled him closer.

Warmth curled around Mattia's heart and made it it's home. He wanted Kairi. He wanted the older teen so badly. Not sexually, just, as everything. It sickened him how head over heels in love he was with his best friend. The feeling of love, the warmness of it, It overwhelmed him and made him whine out a pathetic sound.

Mattia longed for Kairi.

Even though Kairi was here he wanted to hold Kairi to his chest tighter, he feel him closer, he be wrapped up in him.

Kairi's eyes fluttered open in answer to Mattia's whine just in time to watch Mattia nuzzle into his chest.

"Hey, buddy," He whispered, his voice husked due to sleep, "How are you feeling?"

Mattia huffed but even that motion reminded him of the headache he should nurse.

"M'fine."

"You green out and your response is 'I'm fine'? Don't take me for a fool, Matti. Now, answer me."

Mattia only response was a groan at the loudness of Kairi's voice.

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry." He whispered, "You have a headache? And a sore throat, hm?" Gentle hands threaded through Mattia's hair, briefly, he felt Kairi press the back of his hand to his forehead.

The soft touches made his eyelids feel heavier than they were before and then Kairi was moving from his hold making Mattia let out sounds of protests.

"Bubs, I'm gonna have to get you something for your throat and headache, okay?"

Mattia let out another sound—he seemed to be doing that a lot—it was the only way he could actively communicate without hurting his head.

Kairi simply hummed in response as he left the warmth of the covers and went upstairs. He greeted Mattia's mom who didn't even look surprised at his appearance, which, in retrospect should be looked into but instead he went through the familiar cabinets and found what he needed for his friend.

God, he really needed to change that.

Kairi went back downstairs and smiled at the blanket burrito Mattia had wrapped himself in. The only thing visible was Mattia's fluffy hair that seemed to stick out from the hole in the blankets. Kairi let out a chuckle and gave Mattia the the medicine. He watched the youngest scrunch up his face as he swallowed both liquid and solid medicine.

Kairi hopped back into bed and smiled when Mattia curled into his side.

"Alright, alright, we should talk about that night, Tia."

"Don' wanna."

"I know but I'm gonna tell you anyways. It was stupid. Do you know what it was like? I get a call from Mike of all people."

"I'sorry."

"I know you are but you've gotta talk to me, anyone, not just go and get high. I know you suck at words and I know you suck with your emotions but..what if I wasn't there to get you?"

Mattia remained silent and simply pulled Kairi closer even though there wasn't anymore space left to pull Kairi in to.

"Uh, no," Mattia whispered meekly, "You're always there for me, Kai."

It was the truth to Mattia. Kairi realized that. It was a fact, a truth, a promise. It held no room for doubt and it made Kairi's stomach do a flip. Mattia knew Kairi would come get him, care for him, he knew Kairi would be mad but he counted on Kairi and wow, didn't that feel like something?

Mattia had said it so gently too. So, unlike him.

Kairi looked down at the boy tucked against him. The youngest had readjusted their position to where he could lay halfway on him, his cheek against Kairi's chest, and his arm wrapped around his waist. Kairi had no complaints. Instead, he pressed a kiss on Mattia's head and could feel the way Mattia squeezed him in response.

"Yeah, Tia. I'll always be there."

They had a few things to discuss but all Kairi needed to focus on right now was taking care of his Mattia.
