AFTER the Great Fall angels and demons fought. Angels went rogue. Demons killed those weakened by the Fall. It was chaos in world that once had balance.

God had abandoned them. He dropped them like they meant nothing.

Kairi still had nightmares. He cried out for Mattia and the demon would always respond. He would pull the angel into his arms and hold him. Steady him.

Sometimes, Kairi could smell the burnt flesh he emitted when he was falling.

Mattia always caught him.

Kairi sometimes wondered what it would be like if he had forgotten but he never allowed his thoughts to get far.

"So, I was thinking, how about we explore? Expand your little angel brain." Mattia chortled, "I'm sure you'd enjoy it.."

"My angel brain isn't little. In fact, I can recite all the pages within New Testament—"

"Yeah, yeah! New Testament, Genesis, Exodus, all that shit. Come on, my Sprinkle Of Jesus."

Kairi furrowed his eyebrows.

"Sprinkle Of Jesus?" He mouthed.

Kairi watched as Mattia snapped his fingers. The horns he had grown used to disappeared, red eyes turned into hazel ones, black wings that saved him vanished.

"What."

"You know we can't walk around with wings and shit, right? You haven't been doing that, have you? Kairi. Kairi!"

Living on Earth took some adjustments. It took awhile getting used to not seeing wings and  a halo on himself or seeing Mattia's fluffy wings and horns he'd come to adore.

It also meant becoming more human. It was safe to smile and laugh; although, that first feeling of warmth had scared him.

"Why are holding onto me so tightly?!" Mattia had snapped.

"I think I'm going to die!" Kairi cried out.

"What?!"
Worry flashed on the demon's face as he checked Kairi over.

"I feel really warm inside! It's like right here?" He poked to his chest as he heaved in air, "Why are you laughing?! Matti, Matti!"

It took awhile to comprehend what Mattia had tried to explain. Eventually, he got it down. Emotions were new and they were frightening but once he became acquainted with them he never understood why God kept them from feeling. Mattia had explained it once.

"Hey, Mattia."

"Yes, Kai?"

Kai.

Warmth blossomed inside his chest and this time he wasn't so scared because he knew what it meant.

"Why do you think..Why do you think God kept us from feeling anything?"

"I think your God wanted you to be obedient. I think He only wanted you guys to understand loyalty and that's it."

"Like a leash?"
