Kabanata 28 : Off

One thing's for sure, the bombs are planted and had timers. Nagkakagulo ang mga tao at madaming sugatan. Ang mga kasama naming sundalo sa convoy ay nagsipag-tulong sa nga tao.

Kasabay pa ng pagsabog ay ang pagpapaulan ng bala sa kung saan. Our commander and the other men search for them while getting ourselves covered. Ang ilang mga tao ay nakapagtago na din. We went near to the people who got wounded.

"Are you okay?" Nagulat ako nang biglang sumulpot sa tabi ko si Dra. Zarate.

"Doc, you should take cover. Kami na muna ang bahala sa mga sugatan." I said calmly at her. Napayuko siya nang muling nagkaputukan. Pinunit niya ang dulo ng kaniyang damit at dahan dahang ibinalot sa sugat ng lalaki. Napakaraming dumadaing sa sakit at naghihingalo.

I couldn't see Ryland, he's with our commander searching for the shooter.

"Let's move." Hinawakan ni Jac ang braso ni Dra. Zarate para patayuin. He helped the man to stand up dahil sa braso lang naman ang sugat nito na natamo sa pagsabog.

"Cover!" Jac yelled as we duck over a table. I tried shooting with my rifle but I couldn't see where are the bullets coming from.

"Lieutenant!" MSG. Alonzo handed us a M4 rifle. I aimed and saw that they are in a building's rooftop. We shoot at them but they just dodge at it.

"We should move." I ordered as we get up and move fast. Nakarating kami sa military truck at may naiwan doon na ilang sundalo na nagbabantay sa mga hindi mapakaling medical team.

"Doc! Bakit ka ba biglang umalis!" Sermon sa kaniya ng isa sa kanila pero hindi siya pinansin nito at sinenyas na kailangang gamutin ang biktima.

"We need to secure the people, Lieutenant." I said to Jac as he was standing near Dra. Zarate who is busy dressing the guy's wound.

"Let's just stay put here, Lieutenant and wait for there signal." Inayos niya ang earpiece na suot at kinausap ang kabilang linya.

"Copy, we'll secure the safety of them." He repeated the orders that were given to them.

"Nilagyan muna namin ng first aid. You'll be treated in the hospital as soon as this ends, Sir." Dra. Zarate said as she stand up. Lilingon na sana ako sa bandang kanan ko nang makitang may baril na nakatutok sa banda namin. Jac immediately grabbed Dra. Zarate and hugged her to cover her as he shoot the men down.

We were left astounded. Lahat di nakakibo but we immediately fired when someone came near us with long guns. They are rebels, no doubt.

Napabagsak namin sila pero nadaplisan si Jac sa braso niya. Hawak niya ang braso niya at hindi naman makagalaw si Dra. Zarate.

The gunshots died down. Dumatin na din ang ilan sa mga hininging back-up. The place were now being secured. Isinugod na din sa ospital ang mga sugatan. Some of our comrades were wounded and some had died.

Si Dra. Zarate na ang gumamot sa sugat ni Jac. Ryland ran to us to check our status and he gave a sigh when he assured that we're safe. He went to me and stared at me. May maliit siyang sugat sa kilay pero walang tama ng baril.

"I'm glad you're all okay. Many people died and we've got lots of casualties." He informed me. Inayos ko ang hawak na rifle at isinabit sa aking balikat. I tapped his shoulder to calm him down. Magulo at maraming nawasak sa lungsod. No one knew about the rebels attack.
