Chapter 8

‘So over this week I want you to prepare a project on a summary of what we’ve been doing in this topic’ the teacher wittered on as the whole of my Geography class groaned.

‘However, you can work in pairs’ she paused ‘don’t get too excited though, I’ve put them together myself, and I think it’s important to work with other people. ’She chuckled at her unfunny joke.

She read through her list of names before arriving at Becca’s.

‘Erm Becca, I’ve partnered you up with Jai if that’s okay?’

Becca nodded and Jai mouthed sorry as he moved away from sitting next to me.

‘Luke Brooks, you’re with Lily’

A sick feeling came into the pit of my stomach. I may not have been that sober on Saturday night but I remember exactly what had happened with Luke before I went home and I’d been avoiding him for the past 2 days. He came over and took Jai’s seat, I tried not to make eye contact, but it was becoming difficult.

‘Lily,’ he started. ‘I really don’t want to make things awkward between us...’

‘Nothing’s awkward’ I interrupted him before he could carry on, I plastered on a fake smile.

‘Good’ he gave me one of his sweet smiles. I didn’t even know what was going on in my head, I really, really liked Jai; he was funny, sweet and caring I didn’t know what we were but I’d be proud to have him as a boyfriend, but then there’s Luke. He was cheekier, and maybe my drunk mind was telling me that, that kiss was not a mistake.

‘What the fuck are we even supposed to do?’ Luke asked me as we lay on the floor of his and Jai’s room, Becca and Jai had bagsied the living room to do their project so we got stuck in the small bedroom.

‘I don’t even know’ I replied, flicking through random pages of my text book. ‘This is so confusing’

‘Well why don’t we take a break?’ he smirked.

I stared at him, there was already enough tension in the room, without him saying that.

‘I’ll get us some drinks’ I quickly rushed out and passed Becca and Jai on my way to the kitchen.

‘Hey babe, doing well?’ Jai got up, giving me a quick kiss.

I nodded, kissing him back.

‘Can you stop please?’ Becca laughed, Jai and I pulled away smiling.

I poured out some drinks for me and Luke then went back to his room, giving him the glass.

‘Thanks, I’m sorry you got stuck with me by the way, I’m sure you probably wanted to be with Jai’ he said.

‘Yeah, I was gutted I got stuck with you’ I laughed. He chuckled and started to play with his lip ring with his tongue, not going to lie, I loved it when he did that. I looked into his chocolatey brown eyes then looked back down to his lips. He tilted his head, slowly leaned in and planted a gentle kiss on my lips, my breath got weak and my stomach did back flips as he pulled away. I could hear the sound of Jai and Becca’s conversation get closer so quickly spread out some paper to make it look like we had done some work.

‘Have you even done anything?’ Jai laughed as he slid next to me, wrapping his arm around my waist.

‘Yeah we have actually’ I replied, resting my head on his shoulder. I could feel Luke staring at me but I refused to make eye contact.

‘Of course you have’ Becca scoffed, looking down at the blank pages strewn across the floor.
