Guddan and Akshat - Made for Each Other

Chapter 5 - The Ceremonies - Part 3

Akshat went downstairs. He wanted to see for himself what was wrong with that Kalash, but he couldn't find anything wrong with it. Lakshmi had hidden the heavy one away in the store room and swapped it with a normal Kalash, quite tactfully. Akshat still wasn't convinced entirely, but he had no way of proving anything, so, he decided to stay silent for now.

Next morning, Guddan woke up fresh anew. The pain had gone away and swelling had reduced. She could now walk easily without too much pain. Akshat was ready to go to restaurant. When he saw Guddan walking with ease, he nodded his head in disbelief.

Guddan - Kya, haan? Aise kya dekh rahe hain. Jo kehna hai saaf saaf kahiye na.

Akshat - Kuch nahi. (trying to avoid an argument with her)

Guddan - Acha, dar gaye humse. Haan darna bhi chahiye. Humse darrke rehne mein hi aapki bhalai hai. (tries not to smile)

Akshat (giving in to her antics) - Kal to bada chilla rahi thi? Uth nahi paungi, chal nahi paungi? Itni jaldi thik ho gaya?

Guddan (making child-like face) - Hum kya karein? Humse thoda sa bhi dard bardasht nahi hota. Aur pata hai hum toh khun dekhte hi behosh ho jaate hain. (smiles) Pata hai bachpan mein na........

Akshat left the room, annoyed. Why was she even chattering all this information that he hadn't asked for.

Downstairs in the hall -

Akshat - Maa main restaurant jaa raha hun. (to Kishore) Rahul aur Vardhaan kahan hai?

Kishore - Taiar ho rahe hain Papa. Aap chaliye. Main unn dono ko lekar aata hun.

Lakshmi (whispering to Saru) - Apni shadi ke dusre hi din koi kaam pe jata hai? Par yeh to AJ hain. Inke saath saath ab mere babyboo bhi jayenge kaam par. Socha tha aaj toh chutti milegi.

Saraswati (Whispering back) - Inhone toh Rahul ko humari shadi ke baad bhi chhutti nahi di thi, toh inki khudki shadi ke baad kya khakh chutti denge?

Savitri Devi - Achha suno, aaj dopahar ke khane ke waqt tum sab ko ghar par rehna hai.

Akshat - Par Maa.......

Savitri Devi - Par war kuch nahi lalla, aaj meri bahu ki pehli rasoi hai. Aana toh padega tujhe.

After everyone leaves for restaurant, Guddan comes down in a yellow salwar suit.

Savitri Devi - Aare beta, yeh kya pehen liya tune. Aaj toh Munh Dikhai hai na. Toh saree pehenni hogi tujhe.

Guddan (shocked face) - Saree?

Savitri Devi - Haan beta. Aaj ek din pehen le. Rasam hai na. Phir kal se, jo tujhe pasand aaye, woh pehen lena.

Guddan (whispering in her ears) - Par humein toh saree pehenna nahi aata.

Savitri Devi (smiling) - Tu chinta kyun karti hai, teri teen teen bahuen hain. Yeh taiar kar dengi tujhe.

Saraswati (in low voice) - Ye lo! Baaki gharon mein saas bahuon ko sambhalti hain, aur yahan humein aapni saas ko sambhalna hai.

Durga (in low voice, to Saraswati) - Jab saas itni nikammi ho, toh bahuon ko hi sambhalna hoga usse.

Savitri Devi - Aare aapas mein khusur-pusur baad mein kar lena. Jao, jaake apni saas ko taiar karao.

Half-heartedly, the three daughter-in-laws agreed to help her. Guddan steps out of her room upstairs, draped beautifully in a red saree. Savitri Devi is standing downstairs.

Savitri Devi - Taiar ho gayi. Kitni pyaari lag rahi hai meri bachhi. Kahin meri hi nazar na lag jaaye. (doorbell rings) Lagta hai mehmaan aa gaye. Beta, tu apna chehra dhak le pallu se. Munh dikhai ki rasam hai na.
