"Sir Diego, look what I found lurking in the shadows." He said as he took me in.
I couldn't help but notice the sense of surprise that washed over the Latino as he saw me. He quickly changed his demeanor, trying to maintain his cool but I could see he was battling with his thoughts.
"Should I kill her?" The mobster asked. I shook with fright. Oh no. The import of the event now sunk.
"No. I want to have a word with her first, that is if you wish to my lady" Sir Diego bowed slightly.
What the heck? What did he mean by 'first' ? Was he gonna kill me afterwards? Is this my last hour?

I didn't even get to try out Joseph Louis Gay Lussac's law of the mass and volume of a gas at constant gas pressure.
Wait! If I die, I would finally get to meet him. My inner goddess was bubbling with joy. We get to see all the great scientists. Okay mister man... kill me now. Can't wait to meet all of them.
I could take a lesson from Dmitri Mendeleev or even from Svante Arrhenius. Great! Marie Curie will also be there. I've always wanted to meet her. She proved that women could also be great chemistry scientists and Rosalind Franklin too.
Imagine me with Micheal Faraday and Amedeo Avogadro going over the mole concept with the clouds and the stars and the other celestial bodies as our apparatus. What paradise that will be!

I stood there smiling like a child in a candy shop.
"Snap out it." Sir Diego snapped his fingers and broke into my reverie.
"Please kill me." I begged
He looked at me with shock and touched my forehead with the back of his palm to see if I had a fever or not and then he became pensive.
After what seemed like forever he burst into laughter.
"I wouldn't kill you..." his gaze was still fixed on me. He looked at me again with keen interest as he walked confidently towards me until I was pinned to the wall with little space between us.
"This reminds me of an event more than 20 years ago except this is not an office setting." He chuckled and then continued. What did he mean by that?
"You look just like her... an exact copy... with a lighter skin but you're just like her." He cupped my face in his rough palm.
"Pardon me, Sir" I took his hand off my face.
"You look just like your mum Renée... her big bright black eyes, her dimples, her beautiful thick Afro, her tantalising lips, her gorgeous body..." he remarked as he eyed me from head to toe. I began to feel uncomfortable.
"You know my mum?"
"Yeah... let's say we were... good friends."
What was he trying to imply? He looked keenly at my birth mark right on top of my left eye. It was the only difference between Jayla and I.
"You must be Jael?"
"In the flesh."
"Good to get a face to the name." He continued to scan my face with such keen interest I was getting scared.
"Wow. Would you look at the time? It's getting dark, I've to leave." I tried to find an escape.
I raced to the door but I was impeded by the mobster.
"Jael.. tell your mum, I'll see her soon." Sir Diego called out from behind me and signaled the mobster to let me leave.

Once I got out of that area, I was arrested by some officers and taken to the police station. Shane was there in the company of several police men.
"There you are. We've searched the whole city for you. You almost got me fired on the first day of the job. That was so not cool."

The cops alerted my parents and they drove over. My mum run and kissed me and my dad hugged me when they got there. My mum was clearly in tears. But what were they afraid of? Why so much security? Why did two hours of not seeing me warrant a search of the city? What were they hiding?

When we got home, my mum questioned me about my whereabouts.
"Oh, I was with your old time buddy, Mr. Diego. He said to tell you that he'll see you soon."

Mum passed out.
