The finals was this week. In two weeks, we'll be out of high school for good.
I spent most of my afternoons studying online with Myles. He taught me smart ways to understand complex principles.
Dad didn't allow me to go over. We spent all afternoon at home now. Mum stopped going to work and was mostly locked up in her room. She had her therapy sessions at home. Jason went back to Cambridge.
Myles came over sometimes but we mostly spoke online.
When I'm not with Myles, I hang out with Jayla and Carrie, when she comes over.

Beautiful day. I got ready. I picked a a green cardigan on a white shirt over a pair of jeans. I pulled my hair into two low buns and got down for breakfast.

It was only Jayla at the table. Dad left very early. I felt history repeating itself and that shook me to the bones. I dreaded reliving those painful moments of my life again.

Shane and Nick drove us to school.
"Where's Mr. Roberts?" I asked
"He has some family business to attend to. But don't worry we're twice as fun." Shane winked at me. I looked away.
I realised I had never really heard Nick speak. He must be an introvert and a down-to-business kind of person. Jayla must be bored to death in his company.

After school, Shane picked me up.
"Hey"
"Hey" I replied as I sat in the car. Jayla had some assignments to complete in the library so she stayed behind with Nick.
"I have to grab something real quick. I hope you won't mind."
"Oh I don't mind."

We drove over to a diner.
"Wanna come?"
"Sure"

We stepped into the diner together.
We walked to the counter. There was a young lady in her early teens behind the counter. Isn't she too young to be working?

"Shane!" She screamed as she run to hug him, almost knocked him off his feet. An elderly woman in a wheelchair approached us.
"Shane..."
She said in a very feeble voice.

He got down and hugged her. And she turned her attention to me.
"Who's this beautiful young lady you've brought?"
"Mum, sis, meet my... errm... the-
"His friend... I'm a friend." I cut in.
"Oh hello, my dear. I'm glad I got to finally meet one of his friends. He's so antisocial!"
"Mum..." he snorted.
"What's your name my dear?" His mum asked.
"Jael, ma'am."
"Jael... beautiful." The young girl muttered dreamily. I chuckled.
"Jael, meet my family. That's my mum and my younger sister."
"It's a pleasure to meet you two. I've heard lots of nice things about you, especially you, Chelsea."

They've been through a lot, you can tell. But why do they still serve God when He forsook them and allowed all this evil to befall them? Because it's real easy to stay on the fence without the drama of serving Jesus.

Jesus, I know you're there. I know you can hear me. Just stay out of my life, okay? I sure don't want to end up like them.
