It was a day to my birthday party. Final preparations were being made. Our magnificent Hall was bustling with activities. But I stayed in bed all day. For the first time since Myles and I have been friends, he neither called nor texted me. It was almost 24 hours since I last saw him.

I went over to his place but he never returned last night. I wanted to know if he was okay. If I could help him in anyway.

Jayla walked in. I laid on my bed pale, with my feet high against the wall and my hands on my chest.
"Hey. Get up."
"Get out Jayla."
"I'm not going anywhere. Go freshen up and let's have lunch."
"It's almost 4pm."
"Then supper it is. Just get up. You've been stuck in your room all day. You haven't had a bite yet."
"Don't think I know."
"C'mon Jael. I don't want you falling sick."
She paused.
"Look, I don't know what transpired between you and Myles last night but Jael, you must happy. In whatever decision you take, let it not be out of fear. It should rather make you happy."

Those words sunk into my consciousness as she got up to leave. I knew exactly what I had to do.

I freshened up and joined her for supper. Dad walked in. He was quite early today. Was there a reason?
The expression on his face was difficult to read.

"Daddy, come join us for supper." Jayla beckoned.
"Thank you my dear. I'll eat later. I just received news from Harvard."
He got our undivided attention.
"Jayla, you got in but there are still some few procedures that have to be taken care of..."
"What about me?" I asked with great anticipation
He sighed. This isn't going to be good.
"Jael... I'm sorry my princess, because of the video that went round, Harvard has refused your application. But I managed to ge-

I raced to my room. I couldn't handle the shock. The air in the room began to feel light. I was suffocating. I couldn't believe I didn't get in. It was dream, my passion- my reason for living. I broke into tears. Oh no.

Dad stood at my door and knocked a few times. Jayla also came by but I refused to let her in. I didn't want to be pitied, that's the last thing I wanted now.

I felt my world crumbling right under my feet. Myles was deeply hurt by me. I lost a chance study in my dream school. I felt like my world came crashing down.

There was a soft knock on my door.
"Jael... it's Shane."

I don't know why but I got up and opened the door but I did. He walked in. Seeing my face drenched in tears, he wrapped me in a warm embrace, holding on to me possessively.

"It's gonna be alright kid."

I heard the door shut. Not again! I hope it's not what I'm thinking. I raced to the front door but I was too late. I saw his car reverse through the driveway. He's got the wrong impression.

He'll think Shane's the reason I rejected him but that was far from the truth.
