I picked a teal off shoulder bell sleeve loose dress. Wrong. Jayla picked it. I was okay in a big shirt and some shorts- that, my friend is pure relaxation.

She helped me with my makeup, made it light, just as I liked it. She let my now straightened hair fall softly over my shoulders and made some bangs. I wanted to disagree but she had already cut it. I let it slide and made a mental note never to allow her to do my hair.
She continued taking pains to dress me up. What's with all that?

"I think you're confused. I'm not going out on a date. I'm just going to the theatre. You don't need to dress me up like that."
"You never know what could happen tonight."
She winked at me and giggled.
"Stop pairing me up with Myles."
"Why not? You two look good together."
"Firstly, I'm too young and I have my whole life ahead of me. I don't want to waste my childhood years. And secondly, look at me. I can't even hold a candle let to those sensational models he meets everyday at college."
"I guess you're right about that but
don't you dare undermine yourself. You're beautiful my dear. You just need to love yourself. If you could see yourself now, you'll love the enhancement."
"There's a mirror right in front of me, Jayla."
"My point is you're beautiful. Check out your big bright brown eyes. Your beautiful small heart shaped lips. Your dimpled cheeks. Your amazing body. My goodness, you're a bomb!"
"You know you were just praising yourself right."
"We're identical twins, honey. Never call yourself ugly."
We burst into laughter.
"But really-

I was saved by the doorbell. Myles was in.
I walked to the front door. When I opened it, he was speechless.

"You got your hair straightened?"
I didn't know whether it was a compliment. Maybe this wasn't a good idea after all.
I nodded
"What do you think?"
"Straight hair looks good on you."

We stepped in his Porsche and he drove off. Have I told you how much I love this car? Probably because it's the only car I've driven but after these three days, I'm trying all the cars in our garage.

"Hey so what kind of drama performance are we watching?"
"It's a drama on an African story. The post colonisation era."
"Cool..."
"I know you're not really into live drama performances so thanks for watching them with me."
"You can't get rid of me that easily. If it's live drama performances you'd rather watch, then that's what we'll watch."
"I just hope these kind of movies reach many people. Racial injustice is at its peak."
"Yep. In our parts, there are low rates of these activities because of the few blacks here but in parts like Springfield, Trenton and some parts of Chicago, those activities are paramount."
"Guess we'll learn a lot today."
He reached for my hand and held onto it as he drove.
